I don’t want it to come across as if we have an agenda to turn our backs on the scene that got us where we are. We are so grateful to the pop punk community for everything it has given and continues to give Yellowcard. That said, I have always felt that “genrification” of art in any form is restrictive. When we started writing the songs for Lift a Sail, we knew that we are heading in a new direction creatively, and one we were very excited about. So we didn’t worry about a genre or a scene. We wrote from our hearts. We took a lot of chances on the record. I believe it is a collection of songs that have high stakes. I like to describe the record saying, it’s as if all of our favorite ’90s alternative bands and Coldplay had a love child and named it Lift a Sail.
Continue readingBorn in the heat of the Australian summer, ‘Rogues’ is the first piece of stream of conscious pop to surface from Methyl Ethel’s forthcoming debut album. Both sweet and volatile like the ketone compound namesake of Jake Webb’s formless expanding musical alter ego, the song was recorded shortly after inception in the regional south-west over a 24 hour period in the doorless room of an old shopfront in Fremantle that he was living in at the time. In his words “the guitar hook just seemed to fit the song and my housemate at the time remarked how that was what he had also been hearing in his head. It was very, very hot in that house.”

At just 20 years old, Fowler is the perfect storm of all the essential singer-songwriter elements; a flawlessly raw yet organic voice, intricate melodies, compelling musicianship, alluring lyrics, and an overwhelmingly lush sound. In support of this tour, he recorded a special EP with fellow Orlandoan artist Reggie Williams who will be joining him on the tour as well.
