The Black Keys Rock…Because They Can
The Black Keys are back for their ninth album, Let’s Rock. It’s released today on Easy Eye Sound/Nonesuch, and this one’s a rocker. Let’s Rock is a collection of what’s being called “straightforward rock,” the kind that singer/guitarist Dan Auerbach and drummer Patrick Carney played in their early days as a band. “When we’re together, we are The Black Keys,” says Aurebach. “That’s where that real magic is and always has been since we were sixteen.”
Auerbach and Carney wrote and produced Let’s Rock‘s twelve tracks, recording it live at Easy Eye Sound studio in Nashville. It features background vocals by Leisa Hans and Ashley Wilcoxson. Carney describes Let’s Rock as an homage to electric guitar. “We took a simple approach and trimmed all the fat like we used to.”
Back in May, the duo’s song “Lo/Hi” put the band in the history books when it topped Billboard’s Mainstream Rock Songs, Adult Alternative Songs, Rock Airplay, and Alternative Songs charts simultaneously. The Black Keys also will be touring throughout the summer in support of the album, concert dates listed below.
