FORMER FRONTMAN OF SLAVE IS BACK WITH NEW UNRELEASED MATERIAL IN DOUBLE-DISC RETROSPECTIVE
WAY OUT (80-84) OUT SEPTEMBER 29TH

Steve Arrington, 1980s hit maker and former front man of funk legends Slave, is giving fans a exclusive first listen of his new album Way Out (80-84) with Stereogum.com. The full double disc album, composed of unreleased material and re-masteredclassics, is out September 29th via Tummy Touch Records with physical and digital retailers.

Over the summer, Arrington hit the road for a successful tour run to perform his numerous hits and new material off Way Out (80-84), hitting cities such as New York, Boston, Chicago and Toronto. The Boston Globe exclaimed Arrington was back to “funky form” while the Village Voice proclaimed he has “attained a position of righteous funk royalty.” Additionally, this summer Arrington received a BMI Award for his writing credit on the #1 Billboard Hot 100 track “Timber” by Pitbull featuring Kesha.

Way Out (80-84) encompasses all of Arrington’s classics—his first solo single, the Slave backed “Summertime Lovin’” / “Special Effects from Mars” and much sampled hits like “Way Out” and “Weak at the Knees” from his early solo albums that have been sampled by the likes of A Tribe Called Quest, Jay-Z and Mariah Carey. In addition, the album will include unreleased songs deemed too progressive byAtlantic Records at the time and five previously unfinished tracks featuring the classic Hall of Fame line up with brand new vocals and finishing touches from Arrington’s current band.

Last year, Arrington released collaborations with Snoop Dogg and Dam Funk that garnered high regards from Pitchfork to XLR8R who proclaimed “Arrington’s voice sounds as smooth as ever…jump-starting the next phase of his musical career.” In addition, the Washington Post said that Steve’s new music is “The funkiest cut of German Chocolate Cake, Miles Davis, little league baseball and true love you may ever hear.”
