Martin Sexton Covers “Story Of My Life”

Martin Sexton Dared to Cover

One Direction’s “Story Of My Life” by

16-Year-Old Daughter

When Martin Sexton’s 16-year-old daughter Devon found out that her father was followed by One Direction’s Harry Styles on Twitter, her reaction was nothing short of ecstatic.  “My friend Hannah asked me if my dad is Martin Sexton,” said Devon.  “I said, yeah that’s him. She said, ‘Oh my god Harry Styles follows him!'”

Devon then challenged her Dad to cover 1D, which led to him performing a version of “Story of My Life.”  “When she dared me to learn the song, she played it for me and I thought, what a cool track, I could have some fun with this,” said Martin.

Sexton’s acoustic take on this song proves that a good pop single stands up when stripped down to its bones.

Martin’s own group of new songs will be released next month when his new LP Mixtape of the Open Road hits the streets on February 10th via KTR/Redeye.  The new album is exactly what the title suggests; a mix tape of songs, but written and performed all by the same artist.  It’s a musical cross-country trip blazing through all territories of style, cruising through time and place.  It’s a charm bracelet of twelve gems all strung together with the golden thread of what Rolling Stone calls his “soul marinated voice.”  Tracks from the forthcoming album have been featured on Wall Street Journal, CMT Edge, and PopMatters.
