Kat Edmonson’s The Big Picture Coming September 30th
NPR MUSIC’S “FIRST LISTEN” EXCLUSIVELY STREAMS KAT EDMONSON’S THE BIG PICTURE OUT SEPTEMBER 30 ON SONY MUSIC MASTERWORKS OCTOBER TOUR
“…energetic and jubilant…”—The New York Times
“A timeless sound…”—NPR “All Things Considered”
NPR Music’s “First Listen” is exclusively streaming Kat Edmonson’s The Big Picture in full due September 30 via Sony Music Masterworks. NPR Music says “On this latest set, which she recorded with accomplished producer Mitchell Froom, she’s a savvy student of ‘60s film soundtracks, jazz-pop stylists and Brill Building songcraft, nodding to her influences at every turn. But her take on those stylized musical languages is so fresh and fluent that the referencing never feels cumbersome.”
USA Today recently premiered the video for “Rainy Day Woman” saying the album’s “tunes are inspired by the lush orchestral works.”
The Big Picture is Edmonson’s label debut and was recorded with Grammy-nominated producer Mitchell Froom (Paul McCartney) in his Los Angeles studio. She has October tour dates kicking off on October 7 at World Café with major market dates in Boston, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Chicago. She will perform at The North Oak Cliff Music Festival in Dallas and has a performance at the legendary KLRU Studio 6A in Austin, former home of Austin City Limits. Tickets for the show, which will be broadcast live on KUTX, are only available with a purchase of The Big Picture from local staple Waterloo Records. Please see full tour dates below.
This album follows her 2012 release, Way Down Low, which The New York Times hailed as “fresh as a spring bouquet” and The Boston Globe called “one of the greatest vocal albums I’ve ever heard.” The record debuted at #1 on the Billboard Heatseekers Albums Chart and was featured on several major year-end “Best of 2012” lists including Downbeat Magazine, WNYC Soundcheck’s “Best Live Performances” and Daytrotter’s “Best Sessions of 2012.” Edmonson performed on “Austin City Limits”, made her “Prairie Home Companion” debut, and was featured on NPR an impressive five times that same year. The songstress also found herself touring with several well-established acts such as Chris Isaak, Gary Clark Jr. and Michael Kiwanuka.
Texas native Edmonson grew up in Houston and sang in the local club scene in Austin for several years before self-releasing Take To The Sky in 2009. A musical kinship developed from performing with fellow Texan Lyle Lovett led to a high-profile duet of the Christmas classic “Baby, It’s Cold Outside,” which the pair performed together on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.”
Sony Music Masterworks comprises Masterworks, Sony Classical, OKeh, Portrait, Masterworks Broadway and Flying Buddha imprints. For email updates and information please visit www.SonyMasterworks.com.
