Immigrant Union’s Tour Kicks Off Tonight In Boston!
CMJ Dates Confirmed
Sophomore release, Anyway is out NOW
Release follows frontman Brent DeBoer’s International Peace Day call to boycott warmongering Democrats and Republicans
Australia’s Immigrant Union kick off a 16-date U.S. tour tonight in Boston, they confirmed two new shows at CMJ and just released Anyway, their second full-length record. This release also follows the band’s heartfelt International Peace Day statement in which frontman Brent DeBoer (also of The Dandy Warhols) urged American voters to “quit throwing away votes on Democrats and Republicans” and instead support alternative candidates.
With a psychedelic folk sound that DeBoer describes as “Spiritualized being baptised in a river of Creedence Clearwater,” Immigrant Union will play several major American cities in October and November. In anticipation of the tour, the band is offering their single, “The End Has Come,” as a free download and features Courtney Barnett, the singer/songwriter who Rolling Stone called a “hybrid of Kimya Dawson and Kurt Cobain.”
According to the music blog The Sound of Confusion, Immigrant Union feature “lighthearted and occasionally witty lyrics, and you can tell that all involved are experienced musicians.” Dubbed “something of a supergroup,” Immigrant Union consist of DeBoer from The Dandy Warhols, Bob Harrow from The Lazy Sons, and four other well-known players on the Melbourne scene. The band recorded their self-titled full-length debut album with producer Gregg Williams (Sheryl Crow, The Dandy Warhols, Blitzen Trapper).
In response to last month’s International Peace Day, DeBoer said, “It’s time we quit throwing away our votes on these Democrats and Republicans. They are basically the same kinds of people, especially when it comes to the war agenda. They have sucked for a long time. Why should we be paying their bills and sacrificing so many lives? Non-compliance has worked in the past. We must boycott their faulty system and the easiest thing people can do is to just not vote for these creeps. Vote instead for someone who represents your values for peace. There are actually a lot of choices out there.”
After forming in 2004, Immigrant Union recorded their self-titled full-length debut album with producer Gregg Williams (Sheryl Crow, The Dandy Warhols, Blitzen Trapper). The band quickly planted its roots in alt-country-folk, bound by a communal love for classic rock and roll. Part psychedelic folk, part traditional country rock, Immigrant Union have since built their name through live performances at some of the Australia’s most iconic venues and boutique festivals.
