Crying Offers “War Of Attrition” Through NPR

Crying‘s “War of Attrition” Premieres On NPR’s Songs We Love

New Album Get Olde Second Wind
Out Nov. 17th via Run For Cover Records

“With Ryan Galloway’s outrageous, Thin Lizzy-esque power-pop hooks going note-for-note with his own series of ecstatic 8-bit blips — not to mention Nick Corbo’s muscular drumming — the New York trio has already leaped past the charming chiptune pop-punk of last year’s excellent Get Olde, collected now on a double EP with six new tracks.”- NPR

“Crying’s combination of chiptune craziness and muscular indie rock riffs is like no other.” – Stereogum

“Crying keep a solid foot in the realm of rock n’ roll by giving each layer an equal share; the guitar is still crunching’ and the drums are still thrashin’.”
— Impose

“Will you make a move or will I keep quiet again?” The Power trio, comprised of vocalist Elaiza Santos (Whatever, Dad), drummer Nick Corbo (Spook Houses, LVL UP), and Ryan Galloway on guitar and Game Boy, are premiering their track “War of Attrition” yesterday on NPR.

Like many punk songs, “War of Attrition” contains a lot of honest questioning and seems fed up with something, although the music is continuously upbeat and remains chugging along. Vocalist Elaiza narrates her feelings toward someone, drawing attention to their feelings of uncertainty and not knowing what they mean to each other. What’s remarkable is that she never seems angsty or negative while doing this; but rather simple and poetic- a feat that challenges the genre.

“War of Attrition” is short and sweet, with crashing drums provided by Nick and a straight-up infectious guitar solo from Ryan. The conventional instruments are all fused with poppy 8-bit sounds, a cool element that Crying uses flawlessly. This band has such a unique flair – not to mention the skills to back it up – that really sets them apart.

Get Olde Second Wind, Crying’s first Run For Cover release, works as both an anthology and a cohesive work, compiling the critically acclaimed self-released EP, “Get Olde,” and its brand new, darker and danker sequel, “Second Wind.”
