Bahamas Is Afie Is Out

BAHAMAS SETS WINTER TOUR DATES

BAHAMAS IS AFIE OUT NOW ON BRUSHFIRE RECORDS

“Blessed with an amiably husky voice, Jurvanen unfurls elegant melodies amid intelligent, economical arrangements”
—Uncut, 8 out of 10

“Canadian artist Afie Jurvanen self-produces his third album of smile-inducing pop tunes.”—KCRW

“…smart, subtle, supple, superior folk-inflected guitar-pop…what beautiful listening it makes for…”—Monocle

“It’s only fitting that on an album with a self-assuring title like Bahamas is Afie, the musician would begin to experiment and show us another side of his genius.”—CBC Music

“It’s a masterpiece and my favorite for album of the year.”—Daytrotter on Paste

“Bahamas distills his brand of breezy soul…with summer-ready falsetto harmonies that float over a distorted riff, before ending with a quick solo, a move that reminds this laid back Canuck can shred.”—SPIN

Bahamas is Afie is a triumph in soulful, roots music, and instead of just trying to sound old-timey, the record is full of personality.”—American Songwriter

“…Jurvanen attributes the imaginative tune’s twangy tone to musical irony, adding that he’d love to do a full country album someday.”—CMT Edge

While selling out show after show during his fall tour and playing opening slots with Wilco and Jack Johnson, Afie Jurvanen, who performs as Bahamas, confirms new winter tour dates following a November tour in Europe and December dates with Lucius. He will perform songs from his new album Bahamas is Afie out now on Brushfire Records.

With this new album, Jurvanen sought to create and produce a more developed arrangement of strings, brass, winds, orchestral percussion, and chamber choruses. Bahamas is Afie marks Jurnvanen’s transition to a more complex songwriter with a fully arranged collection of music.

Jurvanen’s debut album Pink Strat was released in 2009. The record was nominated for both a Juno Award and the Polaris Music Prize. After the release, Bahamas hit the road for two years touring with artists such as Wilco and Robert Plant. In 2011 he released Barchords, which The Guardian praised as containing “stripped-down harmony-brushed songs with gorgeous hooks and without a wasted note.” Barchords was nominated for two Juno Awards including Adult Alternative Album of the Year and Songwriter of the Year and was named Best Singer/Songwriter Album of 2012 by iTunes. Wall Street Journal praised the record as “bluesy and hypnotic,” and The Los Angeles Times called it “a delightfully rare kind of record that commands an instant replay.”
