Mike Flanigin To Release The Drifter

For 20 years, Austin’s own Mike Flanigin has played with some of the finest musicians who have passed through the Texas music city. Now with the help of engineer Jim Eno (drummer of Spoon), he’s excited to be releasing his first solo album, The Drifter, on August 21. Collaborating with Flanigin on the LP are ZZ Top’s Billy Gibbons, Gary Clark Jr., Alejandro Escovedo, Jimmie Vaughan, the late Reverend Gean West, and the album’s executive producer, Kat Edmonson. Furthermore, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member Clem Burke of Blondie also appears on the release along with legendary jazz musician Bob Malach (Stevie Wonder, Barbara Streisand) playing horns and Stephen Barber­ (Keith Richards, Willie Nelson) composing strings and horn arrangements.

LA Blugrass Situation Goes Greek

The 2015 LA Bluegrass Situation has been announced, with the festival taking place on October 3 at Los Angeles’ famous Greek Theatre. This year’s event features a full day of music, food, culture, and activities, with more details to be announced. Presented by The Bluegrass Situation, Goldenvoice, and Nederlander Concerts, the 2015 LA Bluegrass Situation marks the fifth year of the annual event co-founded by Ed Helms.

Calexico Tours Behind Edge Of The Sun

The celebrated Tucson, Arizona band Calexico has just announced some additional fall live dates. The shows are part of the band’s current North American tour and go on sale this coming Friday. The band is performing in support of their acclaimed new album Edge of the Sun, which Magnet recently proclaimed “one of the hookiest, most-satisfying albums of their career”.

Annie Moses Band’s Fine Arts Summer Academy Announced

While most artists find inspiration solely through recording and performance, the classically-trained members of the Annie Moses Band also consider sharing their talents through the education of young musicians to be a crucial element of their work. Now in its 13th year, the Juilliard-educated band’s Fine Arts Summer Academy (FASA) will convene from July 11th through 23rd, offering students technical training and Broadway-level stagecraft, for a music education experience like no other. The Academy provides an immersive program for young artists for two weeks each summer in Nashville TN, culminating in a series of student perfomances at the city’s most celebrated venues: Bluebird Cafe, Bluegrass Underground, The Cannery Ballroom and The Grand Ole Opry House.

Today Stereogum.com debuted a new James Taylor song called “Montana,” from his “thoughtful, elegiac new studio album” Before This World.
