Wormburner’s Pleasant Living In Planned Communities Arives

WORMBURNER RELEASE PLEASANT LIVING IN PLANNED COMMUNITIES TODAY ON DIVE RECOORDS

ADDED AT KEXP & PLAYING CMJ

ANNOUNCE 8TH ANNUAL CHRISTMAS SHOW AT MERCURY LOUNGE ON DECEMBER 18

“A band with their own take on eighties college rock, and a lead vocalist who can sound like a cross between
Michael Stipe and The Mountain Goats’ John Darnielle.”
– The New Yorker

“Garage rock that happens where The Replacements meet The Hold Steady — across generations and deep at the bottom of a good whiskey bottle.”
– Brooklyn Magazine

“Well-crafted indie-rock anthems… Fans of The Hold Steady and The Mountain Goats, lend this your ears.”
– The Big Takeover

Wormburner release their third LP, Pleasant Living in Planned Communities today via DIVE Records. The album was recently added to indie stalwart KEXP and following their blistering set in NYC last week, the next performance from the narrative indie rock luminaries will be Wednesday, October 22nd at Bowery Electric at 10:30pm during CMJ at the Tijuana Gift Shop Showcase.

Live performances don’t occur very often for the group and NYC Taper attests, “I’ve come to the conclusion that these semi-rare appearances are not to be missed. The musicianship is always solid, but its the live energy particularly from lead singer Steve ‘Hank’ Henry that elevates the performance to ‘must see’ level.” This showmanship was on full display Friday night at the release performance for Pleasant Living in Planned Communities.

Wormburner is also proud to announce their annual Christmas show, taking place Thursday, December 18 at Mercury Lounge, their final show of 2014. A tradition eight years running, the centerpiece of the evening is the band’s performance of their beloved original Christmas song, “Bells of St. Ignatius”, which Time Out New York calls, “Wormburner’s answer to The Pogues’ ‘Fairytale of New York’.” Tickets go on sale this Friday, October 3.

“The Christmas show has grown into the biggest event of the year for us,” says front-man Hank Henry. “It sells out every year, and with our new album gaining traction I’m sure this will be the best one yet. But in the near-term we’re looking forward to our CMJ showcase at Bowery Electric. Somehow we’ve never played that club before, and we’re looking forward to crushing it.”

IMPOSE calls Pleasant Living in Planned Communities, “A rich array of narratives and tales from life’s frontlines.” The desperate characters on the album includes a downed airman in WWII Europe, a 21st Century soldier returning home from battle, and a transient gay hustler whose youthful looks are weathering with age.

The openly gay Henry elaborates on his lyric content; “I’ve only recently realized that the source material for these narratives is probably the fact that I lived many of my formative years in the closet, pretending to be someone I wasn’t. And when you’ve experienced something that intense, it can’t help but inform your writing. That, and a healthy dose of Raymond Carver.”

Recorded in too many locations to name here, Pleasant Living in Planned Communities bristles with a heightened urgency not captured on previous Wormburner recordings. Yet somehow this album goes down smoother, the executions tighter, and the performances elevated courtesy of guest appearances by ace guitarists Sean Eden (Luna) and Paul Carbonara (Blondie).
