Wendy Colonna Talks To No Depression About “Unadulterated Beauty” Of New Album, Bluegrass Situation Praises “Down And Dirty Music”
WFUV Session Airing May 18, More Tour Dates Announced
May 12, 2014 – Critical praise continues to roll in for Wendy Colonna and her latest album Nectar. No Depression says “on Nectar the sweet honey of Colonna’s voice fills our cups with the enduring energy of her pure songwriting. She has blossomed as a songwriter, but it’s the unadulterated beauty of each song that moves us from one flower to the other on the album.” The Bluegrass Situation has made Nectarstandout “Dirty Things” a “Song of the Week,” celebrating “the down and dirty music.” Colonna recently taped a session at tasting making radio station WFUV that will air May 18th, and she’s added new dates to her ever-growing tour schedule.

In his SXSW preview, the Wall Street Journal’s Jim Fusilli put Wendy alongside much buzzed about names like John Fullbright, Jessica Lea Mayfield, Parker Milsap, Shakey Graves and Sturgill Simpson, “a slew of gifted country-influenced singer-songwriters” who performed this year in Austin.
Colonna has become a standout in her adopted hometown of Austin, TX, and Nectar found its way onto year–end “Best Of” lists at the Austin American-Statesman and the Austin Chronicle. The album is filled with songs about surrender, mortality and redemption. Nectar came together after Colonna’s recovery from an eight-month illness, at a point when she was almost ready to give up her music career. The record bares these scars, showing the grace and surrender that went into Colonna surviving and succeeding.
