Violent Femmes Bring Happy New Year
VIOLENT FEMMES HAPPY NEW YEAR EP DUE OUT TOMORROW ON RECORD STORE DAY LEGENDARY TRIO’S FIRST NEW COLLECTION IN 15 YEARS NORTH AMERICAN TOUR BEGINS IN JUNE Violent Femmes will release their eagerly awaited new EP, HAPPY NEW YEAR, tomorrow April 18th, exclusively on 180 gram champagne clear vinyl for Record Store Day. Violent Femmes’ first new collection of songs in 15 years, HAPPY NEW YEAR was recorded this past New Year’s Eve in Hobart, Tasmania, after the legendary band performed a sold out concert at the world famous Sydney Opera House. The Jake Brebes-penned single, “Love Love Love Love Love”, highlights the EP. “Happy to have some new recordings for people that have loved our music,” singer/guitarist/songwriter Gordon Gano told Rolling Stone. “Would be honored to have a few new ears hear us for the first time too.” Violent Femmes – Gano, bassist Brian Ritchie and drummer Brian Viglione – plan to reconvene this spring for more recording and then the trio will begin a major North American tour as Special Guests on Barenaked Ladies’ “Last Summer On Earth 2015,” getting underway June 5th at Columbus, Ohio’s LC Amphitheatre and continuing through late July (complete dates below). One of the most beloved bands of the golden age of indie rock, Violent Femmes returned to action in 2013 with an acclaimed performance at Coachella. Viglione (The Dresden Dolls, Nine Inch Nails) came aboard and the newly reconstituted band embarked on a wide-ranging tour that included headline dates and ecstatically received festival sets around the world. “The Guardian” applauded a London date as “a triumphant rampage through their back catalogue,” declaring the band’s self-titled 1983 debut to be “a cult classic of teenage alienation – a sneerier, post-pubescent Catcher in the Rye, if you like, with added nocturnal emissions and rattling acoustic bass solos.” Violent Femmes came together in 1981 in Milwaukee, WI, and were quickly ranked among the era’s most inventive and original, constantly pushing forward with their singular blend of folk and punk, sarcasm and spirituality. The trio released eight studio albums and more than a dozen singles, among them such iconic classics as “American Music,” “Gone Daddy Gone,” “Nightmares,” “Add It Up,” and of course, “Blister In The Sun.” Violent Femmes’ remarkable three-decade career earned them cumulative sales of many millions worldwide, with 1983’s VIOLENT FEMMES earning RIAA platinum certification eight years after its initial release. www.facebook.com/officialviolentfemmes Violent Femmes/Barenaked Ladies tour dates below: Date Day Market Venue 5-Jun-15 Fri Columbus, OH LC Amphitheatre 6-Jun-15 Sat Cleveland, OH Jacob’s Pavilion 7-Jun-15 Sun Toledo, OH Zoo Amphitheatre 8-Jun-15 Mon Cedar Rapids, IA McGrath Amphitheatre 10-Jun-15 Wed Denver, CO Red Rocks 12-Jun-15 Fri Welch, MN Treasure Island Resort & Casino Island Events Center 13-Jun-15 Sat Milwaukee, WI BMO Harris Pavilion 14-Jun-15 Sun Council Bluffs, IA Harrah’s Council Bluffs 16-Jun-15 Tues Chicago, IL First Merritt Pavilion 17-Jun-15 Wed Indianapolis, IN Farm Bureau Insurance Lawn at White River State Park 19-Jun-15 Fri Cincinnati, OH PNC Pavilion 20-Jun-15 Sat Detroit, MI DTE Energy Music Theatre 21-Jun-15 Sun Salamanca, NY Seneca Allegany Resort & Casino 23-Jun-15 Tues Pittsburgh, PA Stage AE 26-Jun-15 Fri Portland, ME Maine State Pier 27-Jun-15 Sat Uncasville, CT Mohegan Sun Arena 28-Jun-15 Sun Philadelphia, PA Mann Music Center 29-Jun-15 Mon Boston, MA Blue Hills Bank Pavilion 1-Jul-15 Wed New York, NY JBL Live at Pier 97 2-Jul-15 Thurs West Windsor, NJ Mercer County Park Festival Fairgrounds 3-Jul-15 Fri Solomon’s, MD PNC Waterside Pavilion @ Calvert Marine Museum 4-Jul-15 Sat Raleigh, NC The Red Hat Amphitheatre 8-Jul-15 Wed Charlotte, NC Time Warner Cable Uptown Ampitheatre 10-Jul-15 Fri Boca Raton, FL Sunset Cove Amphitheatre 11-Jul-15 Sat St. Augustine, FL St Augustine Amphitheatre 12-Jul-15 Sun Atlanta, GA Verizon Theatre 13-Jul-15 Mon Nashville, TN The Woods at Fontanel 15-Jul-15 Wed Dallas, TX Verizon Theatre at Grand Prairie 18-Jul-15 Sat Las Vegas, NV Boulevard Pool at Cosmopolitan 19-Jul-15 Sun San Diego, CA OAT 21-Jul-15 Tues Los Angeles, CA Greek Theatre 22-Jul-15 Wed Saratoga, CA Mountain Winery 24-Jul-15 Fri Boise, ID Idaho Botanical Garden 25-Jul-15 Sat Portland, OR McMenamin’s Edgefield Amphitheater 26-Jul-15 Sun Seattle, WA Marymoor Park |
