Tyto Alba Debuts Oh Tame One March 6th

Denver Indie-Rock Band Tyto Alba To Release Debut EP

Tyto Alba was formed in Denver around the talents of singer/songwriter/guitarist Melanie Steinway, guitarist Matt Rossi, bassist Ryan Self, and drummer Jeremy Van Zandt. Emotional, dynamic and provocative, the band draws upon modern acts like Daughter, Death Cab for Cutie and Local Natives for an endearing and energetic sound. Steinway and Self previously played together in Steinway’s folk-rock outfit Howl Moonshine Howl, while Rossi and Van Zandt performed in Rossi’s rock band Umbrella Weather.

Upon the merging of these previous relationships, the synergy was immediately apparent. Steinway’s soft fingerpicking folk background interweaves with Rossi’s rambunctious jazz/rock style for a unique guitarist dynamic laced with vocal harmonies. When Tyto Alba performed their first show, audience members were shocked that it was their first live performance due to their natural on-stage chemistry and evident connection. In a recent write up in The Advocate, “…The music begs to be danced to. The group’s style blends elements of folk with a marching drumbeat and fast-paced, rock-inspired chord progressions, but it also has twitches of sorrow, occasionally slowing into more haunting melodies.” Four contrasting musical backgrounds come together in this energetic new Denver indie-rock band as they propel themselves head-first into the eclectic Colorado music scene.

Tyto Alba is thrilled to be heading down to SXSW this year. They will be performing on March 18th at the Handlebar alongside bands i am Love (CO) Rosechild (CA), and others, with additional show dates to be announced.

The band’s debut EP titled “Oh Tame One” was recorded and mixed with Denver local Noah Simons of Male Blonding and mastered by Beats Antique soundman Brian Bash at Sonido Studios.  The album is set for release on March 6th, 2015.
