“Meet SonReal, Drake’s biggest competition at the JUNO Awards.” That’s how MTV News presented this budding artist in 2014. And just last week, SonReal picked up his second JUNO nomination: “Video Of the Year” for “Preach.” (Canadian equivalent of the GRAMMY Award). This marks SonReal’s third JUNO nomination in three years, solidifying him a new force to be reckoned with.

The word is out on SonReal and underground Cali-rapper Fashawn recently handpicked SonReal to join his U.S. tour titled, “The Ecology Tour,” starting February 26 in Los Angeles. The nationwide jaunt will crisscross the country and hit major markets including NYC, Philadelphia, and Atlanta, to name a few.

SonReal is in fact a rapper, but perhaps hitmaker suits him better. He’s been dropping mixtapes since 2011 and amassing fans, the media included. “SonReal has his own flow, his own style, his own message. And he’s pretty damn good at it,” exclaimed Huffington Post. Additionally, The Source praised his 2014-release mixtape One Long Day, pointing out his “introspective style” and “well-honed sense of timing and wordplay.”

On March 10, SonReal returns with the seven-track For The Town EP, featuring the infectious single “Preach,” with its hook-laden chorus and JUNO-nominated accompanying video, as well as the insanely catchy, “Everywhere We Go.” That video has already surpassed 1.5 million views, thanks in part to the brilliant accompanying visuals, something SonReal takes as seriously as his songs.
