Shaky Graves Brings War On October 7th

AND THE WAR CAME, SHAKEY GRAVES’ NEW ALBUM, SET FOR OCTOBER 7 RELEASE ON DUALTONE RECORDS

Austin-Based Artist Will Play Newport Folk Festival (July 26 & 27)

And Open For Tedeschi Trucks Band At NYC’s Beacon Theatre (September 26)

And The War Came, the new album from Shakey Graves, will be released on October 7 by Dualtone Records. Produced by Chris Boosahda and Alejandro Rose-Garcia (a.k.a. Shakey Graves), And The War Came follows the Austin, TX-based artist’s 2011 self-released debut album, Roll the Bones, which brought him national acclaim and, three years later, still ranks near the top of Bandcamp’s digital best-seller charts – a testament to Shakey Graves’ ability to connect with an ever-growing fan base. Still touring behind Roll the Bones, he recently sold out over a dozen headline shows, including New York City’s Bowery Ballroom.

NPR Music hailed him as “astonishing…Unclassifiably original. And frighteningly good.” Paste included Shakey Graves in a “Best of What’s Next” feature, praising his “gnarly composite of blues and folk,” and Esquire described him as “wry, inventive.” The New York Times observed, “[Shakey Graves] makes the one-man band approach look effortless.”

While he still accompanies himself on guitar and a handmade kickdrum built out of an old suitcase, Shakey Graves is joined by Esmé Patterson, a solo artist and member of Denver band Paper Bird, on several tracks on the new album, including “Dearly Departed,” which they co-wrote. View the pair performing the song live at the Pandora House at SXSW in this clip.

Esquire sat down with “the guy from Austin making the city proud” during SXSW and explored Shakey Graves’ unique relationship with the city in this Q&A. By mayoral proclamation, the city has celebrated “Shakey Graves Day” for three years running. This year, Shakey Graves showed his appreciation by hosting a big bash at a local club and making all of his released material available to fans on a “pay what you want” basis for a 72-hour period.

Shakey Graves will celebrate the release of And The War Came with a fall headline tour that will be announced on July 28. He will be playing numerous festivals this summer – including the Winnipeg Folk Festival, the Newport Folk Festival, Pickathon and the Telluride Blues & Brews Festival – and will open for Tedeschi Trucks Band at the Beacon Theatre in New York City on September 26.
