With her single “Younger” climbing over 65 million streams on Spotify, Swedish pop/soul artist Seinabo Sey is set to take the stage for her first U.S. television performance on Conan O’Brien on February 2nd. The national broadcast will be in the midst of Seinabo Sey’s first ever United States headlining tour. The U.S. performances include stops in New York City, Chicago, and Los Angeles.
A limited edition of Seinabo Sey’s debut EP For Madeleine (in honor of her mother) is set to be released by Neon Gold to coincide with her first proper North American tour including Neon Gold live dates in NYC and LA. The deluxe EP arrives January 27th on limited edition GOLD 10″ vinyl complete with an exclusive bonus track in live standout “Words”, with an EP launch show at Le Poisson Rouge that same night and her LA headline debut the following week at Hollywood Forever cemetery.
Virgin Records will also re-release For Madeleine digitally in the US on January 26th to include the “Younger” (Kygo Remix) which has over 40 million streams on Spotify. The six song EP was produced by Magnus Lidehäll (Mapei, Katy Perry) and includes her single “Younger.” “‘Younger’ finds itself in the throws of euphoric, trance-infused sonics,” says The Guardian, “but the focus of the song always remains that incredible voice.” BuzzFeed named “Younger” the #1 “Best Pop Song You May Have Missed This Summer” and Noisey said “You Need To Hear This.” Watch the official video for “Younger” HERE.
Seinabo Sey grew up in Sweden and Gambia surrounded by music. At home reggae and Sufi music was the music of choice and her father, legendary West African musician Maudo Sey, introduced her to traditional Senegalese and Gambian music from an early age. As a teenager Seinabo Sey found her singing voice listening to records by Lauryn Hill, Alicia Keys and Beyonce.
“My father,” says Sey, “was very important for my musical development. It was not that he taught me how to sing, but music was always present at our house when I grew up and without him I’m not sure I would do what I do today.” Her debut single “Younger” catapulted Seinabo Sey to the very frontlines of contemporary pop music and attracted considerable attention both in her native Sweden as well as internationally at the time of its release.
Sey also points out, “Growing up in two different cultures made me aware of the complexity of life and susceptible to impressions and perspectives. It’s a skill that comes in handy when I’m writing lyrics. I have always tried to see both sides of every issue, in search of the very root of the problem. What we say rarely tells the whole story. There is always something lurking underneath the surface. That’s what I’m trying to access when I’m making music.” The live performance adds additional dimensions to Seinabo Sey’s music.
