“shredding New Jersey trio”
– Pitchfork
“Screaming Females are best known for their aggressive punk rock and Marissa Paternoster’s guitar heroics”
– Rolling Stone
“Vocalist Marissa Paternoster roars over chunky guitar chops — her iconic snarl driving above colossal riffs — and the outro’s face-melting licks are the frayed ribbons that tie it all together.”
– SPIN, Singles Mix
“For almost nearly a solid decade, New Jersey trio Screaming Females has been vociferously championing a brand of guitar-based rock music that’s at once both forward-looking and steeped in the long tradition of axe shredders within which frontwoman Marisa Paternoster has carved out a unique spot for herself.”
“face-melting shredding, classic rock structures, and a ruggedly stoned chorus.”
– FADER
New Jersey DIY-punk trio Screaming Females’ sixth LP Rose Mountain is slated for release February 24 on Don Giovanni Records and is available to pre-order now. Setting out with a crystal clear vision to create songs both concise and melodic, the band explores a more streamlined sound, pushing vocal melodies and lyrical themes to the forefront. Known for their raw intensity when performing live, the band will launch a massive international tour this month through May, including an album release show at the Don Giovanni Showcase on February 28.
As the album release approaches, the band is thrilled to reveal album track “It’s Not Fair” for the first time, in the form of a live video filmed by legendary director Lance Bangs (Sonic Youth, Nirvana, Pavement). Though their musical taste is diverse, Screaming Females have also put together a “Guitar Rock” Spotify Playlist, offering fans a glimpse into the guitar driven tunes that “drive” them. The band has also partnered with Guitar World and some of the biggest names in the industry to give a lucky player the same set-up as the band’s guitarist Marissa Paternoster. Fans can enter to win now through February 17, HERE.
Formed in 2005, Screaming Females is singer/guitarist Marissa Paternoster, bassist Michael Abbate and drummer Jarrett Dougherty. The New Jersey DIY-punk trio self-produced their previous releases (with Steve Albini engineering their 2012 LP Ugly and the 2014 concert album Live at the Hideout) but overturned the long-standing, self-imposed rule this time by bringing in Matt Bayles (Mastodon, the Sword) as a producer.
