Ruben Studdard Defends Clay Aikens Against Nasty Political Attacks
AMERICAN IDOL RUBEN STUDDARD SPEAKS OUT ON
DIRTY ATTACK AGAINST CLAY AIKEN
American Idol Ruben Studdard is speaking out in an ad defending congressional candidate Clay Aiken and his run to represent North Carolina’s Second Congressional District.
In a television ad released last week, Aiken’s Democratic primary opponent misrepresented Aiken’s attendance record and participation on a presidential commission eight years ago and accuses Aiken of a lack of commitment to the needs of children with disabilities.
“Truth is, Clay’s dedicated his life to people with disabilities,” Studdard said in the ad released by Aiken’s campaign. “He received his college degree in special education. He taught children with autism. And Clay agreed to support the presidential commission to help people with intellectual disabilities because he believed so strongly in its work.”

Ruben Studdard made this statement following the release of the ad:
“I have known and considered Clay a great friend for the past 11 years. I have always known him to be a staunch defender of children with special needs. I know some people believe that politics needs to be about attacking others, but regardless of someone’s political beliefs, I couldn’t stand by while someone attacked my friend in an area where he has such an incredible track record of doing so much good for so many children.”
Aiken added, “Personal attacks are exactly why Washington doesn’t work. Too many career politicians are too interested in winning political games, and because of that type of mentality and these types of attacks, it’s the American people who end up losing. This culture needs to change.”
The North Carolina Democratic primary election is May 6.
