Rosanne Cash will extend her North American tour into 2015. The GRAMMY winning artist has been touring in support of her critically acclaimed album, The River & The Thread, since its release earlier this year. She will perform at UCLA’s Royce Hall in Los Angeles on Thursday, October 2, and at the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass festival in San Francisco on Sunday, October 5. Her 2015 dates include a three-night stand with the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra (January 23-25), performing as the headline artist in their tribute to American songwriter Stephen Foster, and a special Valentine’s Day concert at New York City’s Metropolitan Museum of Art. See below for itinerary.
“Rosanne continues to courageously blow her audiences away with true class and skill,” observed The Guardian (UK). “Cash is a superb storyteller,” said the San Francisco Chronicle in a review of her sold-out, four-night stand at the SF JAZZ Center.
The new episode of NPR’s “Mountain Stage” features a powerful, hour-long performance by Cash, recorded live last summer in West Virginia. The episode, which also features Hurray For The Riff Raff, Chuck Mean & the Grassy Knoll Boys and Willie Watson, debuts on NPR stations beginning tomorrow, September 26. See local listings or check HERE for air times.
In October, Cash will be honored at Smithsonian magazine’s 3rd annual American Ingenuity Awards, which recognize ten of the most innovative people in the arts and sciences. She will receive the 2014 performing arts award, to be presented by T Bone Burnett.
The River & The Thread features11 original songs written by Cash and producer/arranger/guitarist John Leventhal. After its release in January 2014, it became the highest charting album of her career on the Billboard Top 200, while debuting at No. 1 on the Folk Albums chart and at No. 2 on the Country Albums chart. It has been a mainstay at Americana radio, where it spent more weeks at No. 1 than any other album in 2014 to date – 11 weeks in total. It follows 2009’s The List, which was nominated for two GRAMMY® Awards and won the Americana Music Award for Album of the Year in 2010.
Rolling Stone called The River & The Thread “remarkable,” placing it on its recent list of 2014 albums listeners “really should hear.” The New York Times’ Jon Pareles pronounced it “superb” while the Los Angeles Times awarded it four stars and said, “It’s an album we’ll be looking at in December when it’s time to single out the most powerful works of 2014.” Newsweek hailed The River & The Thread as “the work of a lifetime” and The Telegraph (UK) noted, “Her songs tackle wide-ranging aspects of the South…The spirits of William Faulkner and Robert Johnson hang heavy over them.”
The album features appearances byCory Chisel, Rodney Crowell, Amy Helm, Kris Kristofferson, Allison Moorer, John Prine, Derek Trucks, John Paul White, Tony Joe White and Gabe Witcher.
