Pretty Lights – described by Rick Rubin as “the face and voice of the new American electronic music scene” – received a GRAMMY® nomination for 2013’s A Color Map of the Sun, which Rolling Stone hailed as a “uniquely crafted, groove-centric head trip.” To producethe album,Pretty Lights’Derek Vincent Smithspent a year composing and recording music and vocals that emulated genres and time periods that spanned the last century, then pressed it to vinyl. He used that vinyl along with a massive custom built analog modular synth to createA Color Map of the Sun. The double-CD set also included Live Studio Sessions From A Color Map of the Sun, a disc with 13 tracks from the recording sessions. Tracks from A Color Map of the Sun have racked up more than two million cumulative plays on SoundCloud. Over 167,000 downloads of A Color Map of the Sun and nearly 50,000 downloads of Live Sessions, have been distributed via www.prettylightsmusic.com where all PLM music can be downloaded for free.
Bassnectar has been one of the most well-respected artists in the American electronic landscape since his rise to prominence in the early 2000s. He is the original long-haired headbanger behind the decks, one of the first big names on the new electronic scene. His music oversteps the boundaries of EDM, drawing inspiration from heavy metal, punk rock and hip hop to create a blend of sounds distinct enough to make people know that they’re hearing Bassnectar. “Noise vs Beauty”, Bassnectar’s latest release, was called his most mature by Rolling Stone and debuted at #3 on iTunes overall, #1 on Dance/Electronic and gained his highest Billboard position to date at #21 on the Top 200 chart. 2014 also sees him join a very short list of completely independent artists to ever headline New York’s legendary Madison Square Garden, followed by a fall tour that stops at some of the biggest venues in America.
