The Pop Ups Have an ‘Appetite for Construction’
New Album Due August 19th!
Kids and parents who like to create things will find inspiration in The Pop Ups’ next collection of songs, Appetite for Construction (August 19).
Chosen by Red Tricycle as one of the top kids’ bands in the nation, spotlighted by the Wall Street Journal. and described as “Radiohead-meets-the-Beatles for kids” (National Parenting Publications), The Pop Ups offer a sophisticated sonic experience with extremely kid-friendly lyrics.
This Brooklyn-based duo exudes creativity from every pore, and their songwriting abilities can’t be beat. Check out this clip of Jason and Jacob keeping bugs at bay on Sprout’s Sunnyside Up Show. A lyric video for “All These Shapes” debuted recently, and more videos, including a creativity-themed video series, are in the works.
Every song on Appetite provides an active participation point for whole-family engagement, celebrating imaginative play, building, dance, puppet making and more. “All These Shapes” is a #1 hit song on SiriusXM Kids Place Live this summer.
What People Are Saying..
“Sophisticated pop beeats, juxtaposed with kid-centric lyrics, in a way that’s simultaneously masterful and comical. This is the kind of all-ages album that is defining the family music scene today.”
~ Mindy Thomas, program director, SiriusXM Kids Place Live
“The Pop Ups make music that would have sounded just fine in your Disc-Man in the ’80s or ’90s, but without ever losing sight of the kids.”
~ Bill Childs, Spare the Rock, Spoil the Child radio
“Just so brilliant.”
~ Tim Arem, T-Bone’s Radio Active Kids
More About The Pop Ups
Jacob Stein (left, an art and music educator who has taught at Columbia University and plays music with dozens of kids every day), and Jason Rabinowitz, (right, a performer and dad who has appeared on Broadway — “One Man Two Guvnors” and Encores! City Center), have been creative collaborators since their 2010 release Outside Voices.Their “PASTA: A Pop Ups Puppet Musical” enjoyed successful runs in New York City and Los Angeles, and in 2012, they released Radio Jungle, which launched their careers as nationally touring artists, on their own and with the Yo Gabba Gabba Tour. The critics raved about the party-friendly electro-acoustic pop songs on Radio Jungle, and it was nominated for a GRAMMY award.
While the first two albums reflected the duo’s creativity, with radio hits like “Subway Train,” “Apes in Capes” and “Box of Crayons,” the new album goes even further into exploring the world of imagination. Appetite for Construction incites action, with songs like the recently debuted singles and music videos “All These Shapes” (on heavy rotation on SiriusXM Kids Place Live) and “Costume Party.”
