Pokey LaFarge’s love for his hometown of St. Louis and all of the Midwest has been well documented. This weekend, LaFarge gave as good as he got, playing three sold-out shows for ecstatic audiences at St. Louis club Off Broadway, and making appearances at independent record stores Euclid Records and Vintage Vinyl. He was celebrating the release of his new album, Something in the Water (April 7, Rounder).

Writing in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, critic Daniel Durcholz described LaFarge’s opening night concert at Off Broadway as a “triumphant homecoming,” and praised his “incredibly versatile” and “excellent” seven-piece band “that can play anything from country blues to Western swing to ragtime, gypsy jazz, and many styles in between.”

American Songwriter recently declared “Pokey LaFarge is the real deal,” and the Toronto Sun proclaimed his music “timeless.”
