Fuego, Phish’s New Studio Album, Is Out Now

Phish is kicking off its 2014 summer tour on the East Coast, performing at Xfinity Center in Mansfield, MA tonight, celebrating the Fourth of July with a trio of shows at Saratoga Performing Arts Center in Saratoga Springs, NY (July 3-5) and playing its first concerts on New York City’s Randall’s Island (July 11-13). See below for a complete itinerary or visithttp://phish.com.

The run, which also includes three-night stands on Chicago’s Northerly Island (July 18-20) and at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, CO (August 29-31), launches just a week after the band released its 12th studio album, Fuego. Fans and critics are already buzzing about the live potential of the new songs. NPR Music, which hailed the album as Phish’s “finest work in more than a decade,” singled out the title track and “Wingsuit” as “future concert epics.”

The band – which will perform on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” on Monday, July 14 – is celebrating its 30th anniversary with energy and enthusiasm, buoyed by a new appreciation of both their friendships and their creative accomplishments. Phish’s legacy is explored in two very personal articles that were published last week. Vampire Weekend’s Chris Tomson, writing for TheTalkhouse.com, estimates that he has seen 25-30 Phish shows in the last 15 years. He recalls the impact the band had on him, growing up as a teen in central New Jersey, noting, “they allowed me to feel like I had A Thing that connected me to a larger social, cultural and geographic world/community.” You can read Tomson’s piece on Phish and Fuego HERE.

“For an obsessive kid who loved getting lost in the minute details of everything from film noir to French existentialism, Phish offered another universe to conquer,” says Kyle Anderson in a two-page Entertainment Weekly feature that hails Fuego as “largely great” and observes, “[it] feels bigger, brighter…than anything else they’ve ever done.”

“After the reflective gratitude of 2009’s Joy…the party is back in full swing,” said Rolling Stone. “‘Fuego’ is one of the finest albums of Phish’s career. It’s fresh, vibrant, inventive, brilliantly performed, and dynamic,” observed The Buffalo News while The Associated Press noted, “It’s a fun, spirited, rocking record.”

Fuego, which was produced by Bob Ezrin (Pink Floyd, Lou Reed, Peter Gabriel), is available now at all music retailers and can also be purchased in digital, CD and vinyl formats at http://phish.com.
