Peter Bibby Brings “No More Sleepovers”
PETER BIBBY PREMIERES “NO MORE SLEEPOVERS” VIDEO ON CMJ SINGLE AVAILABLE ON iTUNES NOW Australian singer-songwriter Peter Bibby has released an enchanting new single “No More Sleepovers,” available now on iTunes via Mermaid Avenue/Mom + Pop Music. Today CMJ premiered the track’s accompanying video, which features a karaoke-singing Bibby, a mysterious woman in white, and a creepy doll. CMJ says of the song, “Musically, the guitar drops into darker realms and the song’s la-la-la vibe moves subtly through meaner moods and suddenly gets kind of rockin’, gross and ultimately melodramatic. If that sounds like a lot, well hey it is over five minutes long which can be too long in our click bait age, but this one’s worth settling into.” Watch Peter Bibby’s “Goodbye Johnny” video on Entertainment Weekly Peter Bibby grew up around the inner-northern suburb of Midland in Perth, Western Australia. At 19, he quit his job of 3 years and went busking around Perth and Fremantle, immersing himself in a world of drunken trashbaggery and mad public balladeering. He learned to play songs on the sidewalk, screaming at the world like a wild eyed street-urchin-Necromancer – grabbing pedestrians by the throat to SQUEEZE until they were incanting the words to a song they never knew they knew…or something like that. During that time he and his buddy Mackay, collectively known as Frozen Ocean, realised they could play at pubs in exchange for beer, so they started doing that as often as possible. After a while, Bibby found himself with a collection of self-indulgent songs about girls, chairs, and all the other emotional crash-bangs of a twenty-something year old Australian tramp. Mackay thought, maybe rightly, that it was bollocks, so Peter enlisted the help of Adam and Anetta and formed Fucking Teeth. Not long after releasing their debut album That is You When You are a Gutter, Bibby moved to Melbourne, where he formed the Bottles of Confidence with Sirs Nicholas Allballs and Johnny Stiff. Bibby has been described as ‘a naughty bastard with a heart of gold and a voice of rotting grapes’ as well as ‘a sweet cup of sauce’. His ability to perform under the influence of enough alcohol to kill a rhino is admirable, yet terrifying. Somebody get this man a doctor, or a fishing rod. |
