Paula Fernandes Duets On “Brazil” With Frank Sinatra
BRAZILIAN STAR PAULA FERNANDES RELEASES DUET WITH FRANK SINATRA FOR ICONIC TRACK “BRAZIL”
Duet released on June 24th in celebration of the hosts of the 2014 World Cup
In celebration of the host nation of the 2014 World Cup, Brazilian singer/songwriter Paula Fernandes releases “Brazil,” a duet with the legendary Frank Sinatra. Available worldwide on June 24th from all digital retailers via Universal Music / Signature Sinatra, the never-before heard alternate take is a partnership with Frank Sinatra Enterprises, Universal Music Brazil, and Universal Music Group International.
The original song was released on the Capitol album ‘Come Fly With Me’, which reached the top of the U.S. Billboard charts in 1958, and remained at Number 1 for five weeks, while also gaining a GRAMMYâ Award nomination for Album of the Year. “Brazil” was originally recorded in Capitol Studio A in Hollywood, with Paula’s 2014 duet recorded and mixed in Belo Horizonte and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
“It was a great privilege to sing this duet with Frank Sinatra and a fantastic personal conquest for me,” says Fernandes. “Frank had a beautiful voice with a great range and a unique personality. I would have loved to have been able to meet him to express the enormity of my respect for his art and talent. I am so grateful to have been given the opportunity to participate on this song.”
Frank Sinatra has had strong ties with Brazil throughout his career. Beginning with his classic performances and recordings with local musical hero Antonio Carlos Jobim on the 1967 studio album Francis Albert Sinatra & Antonio Carlos Jobim, which contained the iconic cut “The Girl From Impanema.” Frank and Antonio’s full collaborations are available now on Sinatra/Jobim: The Complete Reprise Recordings. Continuing his links to Brazil, in January 26,1980 Sinatra performed to a crowd of 180,000 people to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the iconic Maracanã Stadium in Rio de Janeiro – a Guinness World Record at the time.
Singer, songwriter and musician Paula Fernandes was born in Minas Gerais in the Southeastern region of Brazil, which is famously known for its mining and production of precious stones. Paula is the biggest phenomenon in the Brazilian music industry of the last decade, and her recent first live release broke all sales and chart records. Since then Paula’s singles have consistently been Top 10 radio hits and many of her songs have been used in the soundtracks of the hugely popular soap operas on TV Globo, the largest TV network in Brazil. She also has the country’s largest fan base across social networks with over 20 million total followers, all leading Paula to be the Number One album-selling superstar in Brazil.
Throughout his 60-year career, Frank Sinatra demonstrated a remarkable ability to thrive in changing times, moving deftly from the swing era to the rock-and-roll era. He performed on more than 1,400 recordings, was awarded 31 gold, nine platinum, three double platinum and one triple platinum album by the Recording Industry Association of America. He also appeared in 58 films, and produced eight motion pictures. Frank Sinatra was awarded Lifetime Achievement Awards from the Grammys, The Screen Actors Guild, The Kennedy Center and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), as well as the Presidential Medal of Freedom and the Congressional Gold Medal. Today, he remains a legend and inspiration to thousands for his contributions to culture and the arts.
