Mini Mansion’s “Death Is A Girl” Revealed
MINI MANSIONS UNVEIL FIRST SINGLE “DEATH IS A GIRL”
FROM FORTHCOMING THE GREAT PRETENDERS ALBUM
FIRST SIGNING TO T BONE BURNETT’S ELECTROMAGNETIC RECORDINGS/CAPITOL RECORDS
Mini Mansions’ forthcoming new album, The Great Pretenders, is due in early 2015 on T Bone Burnett’s Electromagnectic Recordings, via Capitol Records in the U.S. and Fiction Records in the UK, while the first single, “Death Is A Girl,” was released today. The introductory fast-paced track embraces dreamy psychedelic pop as much as 80’s new wave, and plays out with a sense of urgency, daring you to stand still.
This single is accompanied by a B-side, a cover of Sparks’ “Sherlock Holmes,” and available via 7”.
Hailing from California, Mini Mansions’ musical venture was born organically, fated from a shared love of punk rock and melody. While each member made his own way individually, Mini Mansions formed as jam sessions turned into recordings. (Michael Shuman is the current bassist in Queens of the Stone Age, Zach Dawes has served as a studio hired gun and has worked with Brian Wilson, Kimbra, and longtime mentor T Bone Burnett, Tyler Parkford releases music under his solo moniker Mister Goodnite.)
The Great Pretenders ambitiously reflects the depth, variety, and musical/compositional interplay between these three distinct individuals. It’s also probably the only record you’ll hear this year that features both Brian Wilson and Arctic Monkeys’ Alex Turner as guests – indeed, its entire song cycle teems with that kind of surprising discovery.
The band will embark on tour dates later this month and join Arctic Monkeys for a few dates followed by a U.S. run with Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr., as well as some headline dates. Additionally, the trio will open for Royal Blood across an extensive European tour in 2015.
