Mideau To Release Debut And Perform At SXSW

Utah Duo MIDEAU set to Release Self-Titled Debut Album April 21st, 2015 & Confirmed to Perform at SXSW 2015

Utah duo Mideau – Libbie Linton and Spencer J. Harrison – is set to release their self-titled debut full-length album on April 21, 2015. Recorded with the help of Grammy nominated songwriter and producer Nate Pyfer (Kaskade, The Moth & The Flame) and audio engineers Scott Wiley (Neon Trees) and Mike Roskelley (Kaskade, The Late Night Alumni), the album showcases the pair’s ability to write beautiful, complex, melodic and meaningful songs. In addition, Mideau will be making their second SXSW appearance this March in advance of the late spring album release.

Mideau formed in 2012 while both were still in their mid-twenties and after exploring independent musical paths – Libbie as a solo artist and Spencer as part of the band Fictionist. They felt their ambitions independently weren’t being fulfilled and they discovered that they shared the same goals and aspirations. That, in addition to a musical chemistry that works, made Mideau an artistic endeavor they had to pursue.  The name of the band itself was constructed from two root words that when meshed together make a fresh new whole. When listening to Mideau’s debut album you can hear how these two creative forces combine their talents to create something seamless that is exemplified by small things, like the subtle harmonies throughout their songs.

Shortly after forming they started a Kickstarter campaign to raise money to record their debut album.  They quickly surpassed their goal of $10K and set to work on recording Mideau with some of their very talented friends – Pyfer, Wiley and Roskelley. The album was finished at the end of 2013 and it was around this same time that they found out they had been accepted to play SXSW 2014.  They decided they would release the Way with Words EP in January 2014 as a sneak peek into the debut album.  The EP featured three album tracks – “Way with Words,” “Benny,” “Hejduk” and “Hejduk (Faded Papers Figures Remix).” Neon Gold premiered the video for “Way with Words,” describing Mideau’s sound as “All extra-soothing power vocals and high-energy guitars, it’s reminiscent of a tousled mix between Feist, Mr. Little Jeans, and Atlas Genius.” In addition, the song “Way with Words,” was featured in Fox Searchlight’s sleeper hit Enough Said starring James Gandolfini and Julia Louis-Dreyfus.

The album was originally scheduled for release in late spring 2014 however, life got in the way. Libbie discovered she was pregnant with her first child and Spencer found himself moving to North Carolina with his wife while she pursued a graduate degree. These events didn’t hamper their creative process.  Instead, they took advantage of the distance, time and technology to work on songs in their own space, sending files back and forth – being more focused and deliberate.  Needless to say, the album’s release was delayed to allow life to take its course.  Now, with their personal lives a little less hectic and another invitation to play at SXSW, once again Linton and Harrison are on track to release Mideau – due out April 21st, 2015.
