MARY CHAPIN CARPENTER CONFIRMS FALL ACOUSTIC TOUR
“…quietly spellbinding…the music of Ms. Carpenter is an unclassifiable hybrid of pop, folk and country…”—The New York Times
Mary Chapin Carpenter will embark on a series of intimate shows this fall alongside pianist Jon Carroll and multi-instrumentalist John Doyle with special guest opener Tift Merritt. See below for complete tour details.
The acoustic tour caps off a whirlwind year for Carpenter, whose debut orchestral record, Songs from the Movie, was released in January to widespread acclaim. Recorded at Air Studios in London, the album was arranged and conducted by six-time Grammy Award winner Vince Mendoza (Sting, Diana Krall, Chris Botti, Elvis Costello, Björk, Joni Mitchell) and was produced by Carpenter and Mendoza along with Matt Rollings (Keith Urban, Lyle Lovett). Featured on the album are new interpretations of ten beloved songs by Carpenter, including “Between Here and Gone” and “Come On Come On.”
In addition to the acoustic tour, Carpenter will continue to perform select orchestral concerts this fall, including a very special show at Royal Albert Hall with the The London Concert Orchestra on September 29. Of Carpenter’s recent performances at Lincoln Center’s Avery Fisher Hall with the New York Philharmonic, The New York Times praises, “…the orchestral version were open-ended and rhapsodic yet reticent, conjuring emotional subtleties like film scores,” while The Hollywood Reporter asserts, “…a stirring evening of music that provided a rich re-imagining of her lyrically emotive songs.” In the past year, Carpenter has also performed alongside the L.A. Philharmonic, the National Symphony Orchestra and the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, among many others.
Over the course of her career, Carpenter has recorded 13 albums and has sold over 13 million records. With hits like “Passionate Kisses” and “He Thinks He’ll Keep Her,” she has won five Grammy Awards (with 15 nominations), two CMA awards and two Academy of Country Music awards for her vocals. Her songs speak to the most personal of life’s details and the most universal.
