Mainland Lands “Shiner” On Nylon

Mainland debut new video, “Shiner,” on nylon new ep, shiner, available now

Mainland began with an eclectic record collection, 4 New York City transplants and a cavernous rehearsal studio underneath the Manhattan Bridge, culminating in a spontaneous recording session with Jim Eno of Spoon. And today, they return with their new video, “Shiner,” which is streaming exclusively on NYLON mag.

The new video follows another visual installment of their single, “Leave The Lights On,” on SPIN, which they topped off with a lush cover of Coconut Records track, “West Coast.” The cover was featured everywhere from USA Today, to Pigeons and Planes, Indie Shuffle and Hypetrak, and saw the band break Top 10 on the popular HypeM Charts. Mainland are renowned for their rambunctious live shows, having opened for bands like Drowners, Strange Talk and Sucre, and have received further praise from the likes of NME, Interview Magazine, Brooklyn Magazine and Brooklyn Vegan.

Mainland show their raucous merit with their 2nd EP, Shiner, produced by Eno at his Public Hi-Fi studio in Austin, Texas. A gritty and erratic collection of scuzzed out indie-rock, Shiner idles somewhere between the vintage sensibilities of The Pixies, and the carefree aesthetics of The Drums. It’s a genre they’ve affectionately coined as “puke-up punk,” and it’s a term that couldn’t be more perfect.
