Magic Castles will be releasing a new studio album, Sky Sounds, on October 20 through A Recordings, Anton Newcombe’s UK-based imprint. Described by Castles’ mastermind Jason Edmonds as a more “concise” follow-up to their last release, Sky Sounds was produced by Edmunds and Neil Weir and finds the Minneapolis-based five-piece reaching new heights with lush arrangements, jangling backward guitar sweeps, symphonic Farfisa tones, bright vocal harmonies and ever-deepening melodic layers. Guest musicians add cello, viola, flute and trombone on select tracks to add to the wall of sound.

The album will be available digitally and CD as well as a limited edition pressing of 1000 copies on white opaque vinyl. Initial US tour dates have been announced as well as a festival appearance at the Desert Stars Fest in Pioneertown, CA with the Dandy Warhols.

Drawing from a myriad of influences, Magic Castles combine the hazy, hypnotic atmospherics of bands like Spacemen 3 and Galaxie 500 with the organ-drenched psych sound of the mid/late ’60s outfits – particularly American West Coast folk-rock -for an altogether otherworldly sound.

Since their 2012 release on A Recordings they have toured consistently, including being asked to support the Brian Jonestown Massacre’s US East Coast tour in 2012. They’ve built a solid reputation for their immersive, wall-of-sound live shows.
