SANTA MONICA, CA – Producer of a Grammy-nominated record and singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Louise Goffin will release her sixth solo album Songs From The Mine July 15th on her own Majority of One Records.
USAToday.com premiered the song track, “Good Life,” co-written with Nashville songwriter and musician Andrew DeRoberts. Louise told USA Today that the song “started off in the writing process sounding more like a country song, but when I took it back to L.A., I recorded the song to where it sounds more the way you her it on the record.” “Good Life” was produced by Louise and singer/songwriter/producer Bill Harvey, who also sings on the track.
Over the past six years since the release of her solo album Bad Little Animals, Louise has stockpiled material while she busied herself with various projects, most notably as producer/co-writer of Carole King’s (her mother), first holiday record A Holiday Carole which earned a Grammy nomination.
Then asked perform at the 2014 MusiCares Person of the Year gala to honor King, Louise didn’t have to dig deep to create an EP of songs for the occasion that would be the springboard for the full length, Songs From The Mine.
“The whole record is this journey,” she explains to USA Today. “It’s soul-searching, but it has these moments of joyous, absolute fun.”
Recorded in Los Angeles, with some recording done at the Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, Holiday Music Motel, Louise produced and played piano, B-3, ukulele, and guitar, and added a touch of snare drum and tambourine. Friends Alice Cooper and Johnny Depp lend backing vocals and handclaps to “Watching The Sky Turn Blue.”
With a lifetime spent soaking up the finest music of her generation and a love of songs that “put you in a movie lyrically, or ones that sound so full of raw attitude that you could forget your insecurities,” Goffin employed a rich palette to fashion Songs From The Mine. Pure nirvana for pop melody freaks, the CD is stylishly arranged and lyrically erudite, with stand-out songs throughout.
Louise will perform at McCabe’s Guitar Shop in Santa Monica on Saturday, May 17th. Additional tour dates TBA. Update available at http://www.louisegoffin.com
