Lost Bayou Ramblers’ Bring Gasa Gasa Live September 30th
GRAMMY NOMINATED LOST BAYOU RAMBLERS RELEASE GASA GASA LIVE ON SEPTEMBER 30, 2014
Grammy-nominated rock infused Cajun band Lost Bayou Ramblers return with Gasa Gasa Live on September 30th. Fall tour begins October 1 at Rockwood Music Hall in New York City.
With five albums under their belt—along with a 2007 Grammy nomination for Best Zydeco or Cajun Music Album for Live: À la Blue Moon—the group, featuring brothers Andre & Louis Michot, began making strides to expanding their sound on 2008’s Vermillionaire, which they recorded with Austin-based producer Chris “Frenchie” Smith. With Cavan Carruth moving increasingly into playing electric guitar, the Lost Bayou Ramblers have taken the next step with 2012s Mammoth Waltz on their own Bayou Perdu label and produced by Korey Richey [Arcade Fire, GIVERS] at the famed Dockside Studios in Maurice, LA.
Mammoth Waltz broke ground by taking Cajun music and turning it into something accessible and danceable to all. Adding in special guests including DR. JOHN, SCARLETT JOHANSSON, Violent Femme’s GORDON GANO, members of GIVERS, NORA ARNEZEDER only strengthened the eclectic mix of instrumentation and sound.
Rolling Stone featured the making of Mammoth Waltz video in October 2012 and recently New Orlean’s paper Times Picayune named it one of the “21 Best Louisiana Albums of the 21st century,” stating: “[Mammoth Waltz] revved up the punk possibilities of Cajun music while staying firmly rooted in the bayou.”
In 2013, the Lost Bayou Ramblers were linked to the Oscar Nominated film “Beasts of the Southern Wild,” arising from their contribution to the song “The Bathtub”, an interpretation of the “Balfa Waltz”.
Gasa Gasa Live features songs from Mammoth Waltz, covers and a new original from their forthcoming studio album due in early 2015. Gasa Gasa Live is available September 30th on their own Bayou Perdu label.
The Lost Bayou Ramblers will tour this fall.
