VH1 Save the Music Foundation 2014 Honors Presented by Avnet, will celebrate legendary musician, songwriter and record producer, Linda Perry, on July 25th in the Hamptons. The first event of its kind for the Foundation, the summer celebration honors individuals who personify the spirit of music in their respective fields.
“It is truly an honor to be recognized by an organization I believe in. Music class was the only thing I was good at. I can’t imagine today’s generation not having access to it in school,” said Perry.
In addition to Perry, honorees include: Charlie Walk, Executive Vice President of Republic Records, Bozoma Saint John, SVP of Global Marketing at Beats Music and Nathan Cohen, Grace A. Dunn Middle School Music Teacher. The event will raise money for music education programs in public schools. High-energy musical performances will be featured throughout the evening.
Perry is also celebrating the launch of her new VH1 docu-series, “Make or Break: The Linda Perry Project.” For the first time, Perry opens the doors to her Hollywood studio as she works with a talented group of young artists—helping them find their voice and define who they are. Her goal is to find the next big thing and sign them to her label, Custard Records. The GRAMMY-nominated, multi-platinum Perry, who does not mince words, takes the artist on a brutally honest and raw journey of discovery. It is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for a very talented, hand-picked few. “Make or Break: The Linda Perry Project,” airs Wednesday’s at 10/9c.
Singer/Songwriter/Producer Linda Perry is one of the most sought after names in the music business, and is often created with bringing out the real artist in some of today’s most acclaimed artists. As lead singer/songwriter for former Interscope recording artists 4 Non Blondes, she penned the early 90s mega hit “What’s Up,” that catapulted the band to international stardom with debut album sales of seven million copies worldwide. She has toured with The Who, Aerosmith, Prince, Neil Young and Pearl Jam. Perry evolved from the 90s to her current incarnation as a true musical renaissance woman. From her first major cuts and productions with P!nk – on the 12 million-plus selling, twice GRAMMY nominated album “M!ssundaztood,” to numerous hits penned and produced for such artists as Christina Aguilera (“Beautiful”), Alicia Keys (“Superwoman” & “Pray for Forgiveness”), Gwen Stefani, James Blunt and more, Perry is at the top of the game.
Perry is also a philanthropist, working closely with several organizations to promote charity, freedom of expression, individuality and acceptance. By supporting organizations such as the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center and the Art of Elysium, she helps inspire the community and members of the entertainment industry to act as citizens of the world.
