Lily & Madeleine Bring “Blue Blades” To NPR
LILY & MADELEINE’S “BLUE BLADES” MUSIC VIDEO PREMIERES AT NPR MUSIC FUMES OUT NOW ON ASTHMATIC KITTY RECORDS |
“Blue Blades” is from the duo’s new album, Fumes, which was recently released to widespread critical acclaim (Asthmatic Kitty Records). Of the music, Teen Vogue praises, “There’s a good chance Lily Jurkiewicz and Madeleine Jurkiewicz are about to become the coolest girls you know…prepare to fall in love the second you hear their voices,” while NPR Music describes, “Fumes is a misleading record, the way a masterfully performed dance is misleading: It looks easy only because the complexities behind it are unfathomable to outsiders. There’s a borderlessness to Lily & Madeleine that leans from seamlessly natural to mesmerizingly preternatural, hinting at deeper forces at work than skill and practice.” Additionally, the U.K.’s The Independent proclaims, “Never mind Difficult Second Album Syndrome. When Indianapolis sisters Lily & Madeleine released their lovely self-titled album in 2013, their stated aim was to record an album a year for the next three years. True to their word, one year and one day later…Fumes, an even better follow up.” In celebration of the release, the duo is currently in the midst on a nationwide tour. See below for complete details. Of their recent live show, No Country For New Nashville praised, “The show, quite simply, was beautiful…these girls command the stage in such a steady, reassuring way that anything more than them just playing their music would be too much. In this case, less is absolutely more, and they’ve mastered it.” Produced once again by Paul Mahern, the 10-track album was recorded in Bloomington, IN and was written by the sisters and longtime collaborator Kenny Childers (Gentleman Caller). Of the project, Madeleine comments, “Fumes is a new step for us as artists. It shows our transformation as musicians and as women, and was inspired by our experience on the road as well as the life experiences of people close to us. Dedicating more time and working with new artists in the studio allowed us to better create the sound we wanted. It’s a perfect reflection of this stage of our lives.” The new recording follows the sisters’ self-titled debut album, which was released last year to overwhelming critical acclaim. The New York Times calls Lily & Madeleine, “…extraordinary…,” while Nylon Magazine praises, “…already honed a mature, enchanting sound” and Paste asserts, “stunning singers, smart songwriters, and effortless live performers.” Additionally, in the past year, the duo has appeared on CBS’ “This Morning,” KCRW’s “Morning Becomes Eclectic” and NPR Music’s “Tiny Desk Concert” series.
