GRAMMY Award-winner Lenny Kravitz joins Food Bank For New York City to kick off a first-of-its-kind, five-borough hunger-relief campaign on to coincide with Food Bank’s 13^th Annual Can Do Awards Dinner on April 21^st at Cipriani Wall Street.  Kravitz, a new member of Food Bank’s Celebrity Ambassador Program, and a native New Yorker, will serve as the Manhattan Borough Captain for the Campaign, encouraging his fellow-Manhattanites to support New Yorkers in need.  Joining Kravitz on Team Manhattan is Food Bank Celebrity Ambassador, Questlove.  Award-winning musician, producer and actor, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, and Actress Debi Mazar, will Captain Queens. Brooklyn born actress Gabourey “Gabby” Sidibe is representing Brooklyn alongside celebrity chef, “The Tuscan Gun” from The Cooking Channel’s hit show, Extra Virgin, Gabriele Corcos.  American Rapper and prominent member of the Wu-Tang Clan, Raekwon will be campaigning for Staten Island, while the NFL’s Chris Canty is supporting the Bronx.

Food Bank For New York City — the city’s major hunger-relief organization working to end food poverty throughout the five boroughs — will honor its partners in the fight against hunger — Tom Colicchio and Lori Silverbush, Stavros Niarchos Foundation and Sandra Lee-Simply Living Publishing — at the 13^th Annual Can Do Awards Dinner, presented by Bank of America, on Tuesday, April 21^st, at Cipriani Wall Street.  Food Bank’s special guest speaker is New York State Governor  Andrew Cuomo.  Mario Batali and Susan Cahn, long-time Food Bank supporters and the 2013 Can Do Award honorees, serve as this year’s Honorary Chairs.  ABC’s “The Chew” Daphne Oz and Carla Hall will join their co-host, Mario Batali as the evening’s emcees. Nashville’s Grammy Award-winning and two-time CMA Vocal Group of the Year, Little Big Town, will be the special musical guest, bringing some of their biggest hits to the Can Do Awards.

More than 600 attendees are expected to fill the room, including Jon Bon Jovi, Michael J. Fox, Tracy Pollan, Michael Strahan, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, Rachael Ray, Steve Higgins, Mike Mills, Paul Sorvino, Lauren Bush Lauren, Jill Hennessey, Michael Symon, Anne Burrell, Gail Simmons, Kelly Bensimon, and many more.

The Can Do Awards Dinner is instrumental in helping provide support for the 1.5 million New Yorkers who rely on Food Bank programs and services, including one in five children. New York’s most vulnerable families have lost more than 56 million meals as a result of the November 2013 cuts to SNAP (formerly known as food stamps). Food pantries and soup kitchens have confronted additional need without an adequate supply of food.  Can Do celebrates what each of us CAN DO to help fight hunger in New York City. Since its inception, the Can Do Awards have raised more than 12 million dollars, helping to provide 63 million free meals annually for New Yorkers in need.
