Beloved children’s recording artist and preschool television favorite Laurie Berkner will release six fully remastered, “themed,” digital albums on June 16th (Two Tomatoes Records, distributed by Razor & Tie). Titled Laurie Berkner’s Animal Songs, Laurie Berkner’s Classroom Favorites, Laurie Berkner’s Food Songs, Laurie Berkner’s Movement Songs, Laurie Berkner’s Nature Songs, and Laurie Berkner’s Transportation Songs, these albums were personally curated by Laurie to support teachers, parents, or anyone needing a song with a particular theme.
Says Laurie, “I know, from being a preschool music teacher and a parent, how often I have found myself searching for good songs about a particular subject. I wanted to make that search easier, so I created six remastered, themed albums using my previously recorded, original songs. It was so fun to go through them all and watch the topics I write about the most emerge! I hope that through these curated albums, longtime fans will rediscover favorite songs and new families will find themselves becoming longtime fans!”
Songs from six of The Laurie Berkner Band’s CDs are represented: Whaddaya Think of That? (1997); Buzz Buzz (1998); Victor Vito (1999); Under A Shady Tree (2002); Rocketship Run (2008), and the DVD/CD Party Day! (2011). Because Laurie’s remastered, themed collections are digital downloads, the music is available at a substantial savings over the cost of purchasing physical CDs.
A former preschool music teacher by day and indie rocker by night, Laurie Berkner started selling her music more than fifteen years ago out of her living room on her own label, Two Tomatoes Records. She is now widely recognized as a pioneer in the “kindie” music genre and was dubbed “The undisputed queen of kindie rock” by USA Today. The Wall Street Journal noted, “Her music is distinctive because it speaks to kids without talking down to them, charming youngsters without boring grown-ups.”
Laurie Berkner was the first artist to ever appear in music videos on Nick Jr. and was featured in nearly all of the episodes of the channel’s Jack’s Big Music Show. She currently stars in the animated musical short-form series Sing It, Laurie! on the Sprout preschool channel and makes regular appearances on Sprout’s Sunny Side Up Show. Laurie is a familiar presence on SiriusXM’s Kids Place Live, where her “Instant Party” segments with daughter Lucy air throughout each day. Laurie also hosts a popular series of Kids Place Live specials titled Laurie Berkner’s Garden: Eat, Play, Grow.
The Laurie Berkner Band features: Laurie Berkner, vocals/guitar; Susie Lampert, keyboards; Brady Rymer, bass; and Bobby Golden, drums/percussion.
