Laura Mvula Will Sing To The Moon Again
LAURA MVULA RE-RECORDS HER CRITICALLY ACCLAIMED DEBUT ALBUM ‘SING TO THE MOON’ WITH THE METROPOLE ORKEST
British songstress Laura Mvula returns with a new recording of her critically acclaimed debut album, ‘Sing To The Moon.’ Recorded at London’s legendary Abbey Road Studios with the Dutch Metropole Orkest (the largest full-time orchestra of its kind in the world) and led by conductor Jules Buckley, the album contains new arrangements of all twelve tracks on the original version.
Named “most likely to keep you spellbound” by People Magazine, the singer-songwriter’s music fuses orchestral soul, poetic lyrics and thrilling harmonies. Her voice, layered with velvety lushness, is a one-woman symphony – a match made in heaven for the power and talent of the 52 strong orchestra. These new arrangements send Laura’s ambitious and stunning debut to new heights, paying tribute to her classical training.
Mvula has taken the U.S. by storm, appearing this year at Coachella and Jazzfest in addition to her own headlining tour dates and has performed on The Today Show, The Late Show With David Letterman, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, and the Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson. Her debut, Sing To The Moon, made many critics’ year-end lists, including The Wall Street Journal’s year-end wrap-up, The New York Times’ Best of 2013, LA Times’ Top Albums list, Rolling Stone’s Best Debuts of 2013, People Magazine’s Top 10 of 2013, NPR’s Favorite Songs of the Year and 50 Favorite Albums of 2013, Vulture’s Top 100 Songs of 2013, the New York Daily News’ Top Music for 2013, Buzzfeed’s Records You Might Have Missed in 2013 and 35 Reasons Why R&B Had The Best Year Ever, The Daily Beast’s Strangest and Most Surprising Recordings of 2013, and was included in VH1’s Best Album Staff Picks. Her moving cover of Nina Simone’s “Little Girl Blue” was also featured on the soundtrack for the critically acclaimed film 12 Years A Slave.
In her native England, Mvula has recently been nominated for two BRIT Awards (British Female Solo Artist and British Breakthrough Act), shortlisted for the Mercury prize and received a nomination for the Album Award at the recent Ivor Novello Awards. Additionally, she was awarded Best Female and Best R&B Act at the MOBO Awards, Best Newcomer at the Silver Clef Awards and Best Female at the Urban Music Awards.
Since announcing the release of her debut EP in 2012, Laura has been picking up critical acclaim and support from some of the biggest tastemakers out there. Laura’s unique sound has entranced critics, leading The New York Times to proclaim, “She’s a musical architect,” while The Wall Street Journal praised her debut as “quietly yet forcefully brilliant.” Catapulted into the limelight following the release of ‘Sing To The Moon’ last year, Laura is graduate from the Birmingham Conservatoire with a degree in composition and started writing songs on her laptop while working as a supply teacher in a Birmingham secondary school. As one of the most exciting new musical talents to come out of the UK, this young lady deserves every bit of attention she gets.
