Laleh, Sweden’s award-winning, chart-topping songstress, makes her U.S. debut today with the release of the 5-track EP Boom. From the exclusive title track to “Some Die Young,” a song that became an anthem across Scandinavia, Laleh’s music engulfs listeners into an almost mythical world poised between snowcapped mountains and jagged coastlines. She balances the darkness and the light on “Colors,” which will soon be accompanied by a new music video that marks the directorial debut of acclaimed costume designer/stylist B. Akerlund.

Laleh (pronounced La-ley) fled a war torn Iran at the age of 1 and was a refugee traveling to Azerbaijan then Russia and then finally a camp in Sweden. There, in the country she now calls home, she learned about music, which reflects her journey and much more. As she recently told Time about the EP’s title track, “A lot of people think my songs are about death, but ‘Boom’ is really about life and leaving life alone; leaving it in the solid; in the dirt to bloom. I love life more than anything, therefore I understand death.”

When it comes to music, there are no social, geographical, or political boundaries that can contain the impact it is destined for.
