KYARY TOPS BEYONCE AND DAFT PUNK FOR “BEST ALBUM OF THE YEAR” AT THE 2014 MTV VIDEO MUSIC AWARDS JAPAN AND NOMINATED FOR FOUR WORLD MUSIC AWARDS
Pitchfork – “…a multimedia artist along the lines of Björk and Lady Gaga, whose aesthetic instincts are strong enough that she’s allowed to scribble way outside of the lines most pop stars have to operate within.”
VICE – “Her live show was one of the most incredible spectacles I’ve ever seen. She’s putting boring, old American pop to shame. Kyary Pamyu Pamyu is the weird future this genre desperately needs.”
The FADER – “Kyary Pamyu Pamyu is planet earth’s next pop model.”
Kyary Pamyu Pamyu has premiered her first all-English song, “Ring a Bell” via Vogue.com (US Premiere) and it’s as addictive and bubbly as you’d imagine. “Ring a Bell” will be featured on the reigning Queen of J-pop’s third album, Pika Pika Fantajin, set for release in the US on July 29th via Warner Music Group. Kyary’s new album is the follow-up to 2012’s Nanda Collection, which garnered praise and attention from fellow global pop-stars Katy Perry and Ariana Grande, as well as media including Pitchfork, The Wall Street Journal, The Guardian, The Fader, MTV Iggy, Vice, and The Los Angeles Times. Pika Pika Fantajin was produced by Yasutaka Nakata (Capsule), whom also produced her last two albums. Known for elaborate visual spectacles and with over 2.2 BILLION TOTAL VIDEO VIEWS under her belt, Kyary recently debuted the video for her upcoming album’s lead single, “Kira Kira Killer,” which is also available for purchase now on iTunes.
Following her recent victory over Beyonce and Daft Punk for “Best Album of the Year” at the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards Japan, Kyary’s also nominated for FOUR World Music Awards including “World’s Best Female Artist,” “World’s Best Live Act,” “World’s Best Entertainer of the Year,” and “World’s Best Album.” She has also previously been awarded VOGUE Japan’s “Woman of the Year.”
Pika pika means shiny, glossy, and lustrous. Fantajin is a very Kyary-like coined word of “fantasy” + “people.” Just as the title, each three album covers (pictured above) describe Kyary’s interpretation of the world of fantasy. Concert DVDs will come with the limited editions and feature documentary of her on-going world tour, “NANDA COLLECTION WORLD TOUR 2014,” which will be making a special stop in Honolulu, Hawaii on July 20th.
