Kool & the Gang Celebrates 50 Years of Kool

Iconic group set to receive Soul Train Award’s Legend Award, Billboard Magazine Commemorative Issue, and Star on Hollywood Walk of Fame

With 2014 marking the 50th anniversary of iconic chart-topping group Kool & the Gang, the band is taking a cue from their 1980 hit “Celebration” to commemorate the special occasion starting in November with special performances, appearances and awards.

The festivities will begin in Las Vegas on Friday, November 7 at the 2014 Soul Train Awards where Kool & the Gang will receive the coveted Legend Award, which recognizes individuals for their outstanding achievements and contribution to soul music. The show will be hosted by Wendy Williams and air on Centric and BET on November 30 at 8pm ET/PT. As part of Centric’s Soul Train Weekend, the group will also hit the stage at 7pm on Sunday, November 9 in Las Vegas’ Orleans Showroom at The Orleans Hotel & Casino as part of Centric’s Soul Train Review.

Additionally, the legendary group will be honored by Billboard with a commemorative print issue dated November 22.

The celebration of 50 years will continue well into 2015 as Kool & the Gang is set to be inducted into the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
