Kat Edmonson rounds out 2014 with select dates in New York at the Town Hall on November 22 for a taping of “A Prairie Home Companion” and December 3 in Denver for eTown. In February and March, she will perform in cities across the U.S. playing songs from her critically acclaimed new album The Big Picture, available on Sony Music Masterworks. Kicking off in her home state of Texas, Edmonson will perform Austin City Limits Live at the Moody Theater.
The Big Picture debuted at #1 on the Billboard Heatseekers Albums Chart, #1 on Contemporary Jazz Chart, and #2 on the Total Jazz Chart. Edmonson spoke to Scott Simon from NPR’s “Weekend Edition Saturday” who she told “I hear myself as an instrument, playing with the band.” USA Today premiered the video for “Rainy Day Woman” saying the album’s “lush orchestral works we often hear in those hyper-stylized ’60s classics”.
The Big Picture is Edmonson’s label debut and was recorded with Grammy-nominated producer Mitchell Froom (Paul McCartney) in his Los Angeles studio. This album follows her 2012 release, Way Down Low, which The New York Times hailed as “fresh as a spring bouquet” and The Boston Globe called “one of the greatest vocal albums I’ve ever heard.” The record debuted at #1 on the Billboard Heatseekers Albums Chart and was featured on several major year-end “Best of 2012” lists including Downbeat Magazine, WNYC Soundcheck’s “Best Live Performances” and Daytrotter’s “Best Sessions of 2012.” Edmonson was featured on NPR an impressive five times that same year.
Texas native Edmonson grew up in Houston and sang in the local club scene in Austin for several years before self-releasing Take To The Sky in 2009. A musical kinship developed from performing with fellow Texan Lyle Lovett led to a high-profile duet of the Christmas classic “Baby, It’s Cold Outside,” which the pair performed together on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.”
Sony Music Masterworks comprises Masterworks, Sony Classical, OKeh, Portrait, Masterworks Broadway and Flying Buddha imprints. For email updates and information please visit www.SonyMasterworks.com.
