Award-winning Canadian alt-blues rock quintet July Talk took to Billboard today to announce March 3rd as the release date of their self-titled debut album on Island Records, and to premiere the video for their brand new non-album track “Someone,” shot in Lake Ontario by director Matt Greyson.

July Talk’s self-titled album, which scored the band a 2015 Juno Award nomination for Alternative Album of the Year, and “Someone” video releases come a few weeks in advance of this year’s 2015 SXSW Music Conference in Austin, TX.  The band will be hunkered down for virtually the entire run of the annual SXSW marathon, which runs March 17-22 this year.  July Talk is scheduled to perform:

July Talk is scheduled to perform:

• March 16th:  Strange Brew event at Hotel Vegas

• March 19th:  Island Records Showcase

• March 20th:  AudioTree showcase

The release news of July Talk comes as the band launches into their first headlining U.S. tour of 2015, which kicked off with sold-out shows at the Town Ballroom in Buffalo, NY.  The 10-city US tour (supporting fellow Canadian Sam Roberts) wraps up at Great Scott in Allston, MA, on March 1st, followed by the album release two days later.  (Please see below for full itinerary)

[WATCH] July Talk – “Someone”

July Talk was hailed as “the talk of the Canadian music scene” by the Vancouver Sun even before they won Best Music Video for “Summer Dress” at December’s CBC Music Awards. They were introduced to U.S. audiences on their 6-song debut Guns + Ammunition EP, issued last summer 2014.  The EP was launched with a record release show at Knitting Factory Brooklyn.  Fans were quickly won over by the harshly beautiful concoction of singer Peter Dreimanis’ raspy growl with Leah Fay’s sweet and poignant vocals, channeling the five-piece band’s pure and brutal emotionalism into wickedly sharp lyrics.  (July Talk will include all 6 songs from the EP.)

July Talk was formed in 2012 after Peter Dreimanis heard Leah Fay singing at a local bar in Toronto, and knew he met his match.  They linked up with guitarist Ian Docherty, bassist Josh Warburton, and drummer Danny Miles to develop a signature sound that is both boldly intimate and wildly confrontational.  It was honed through relentless touring, as July Talk earned a reputation for high-energy, magnetic shows.  Following the Guns + Ammunition EP release, July Talk hit the road with the Presidents Of The United States Of America, then went straight into a 30-city coast-to-coast North American tour of the U.S. and Canada with Rural Alberta Advantage that took them through mid-November.
