Minneapolis musical prodigy John Mark Nelson returns from a sold-out show in London to commence his U.S. tour beginning August 29th in Minneapolis at the Northrup Auditorium.

Likened to a “younger version of Dirty Projectors frontman David Longstreth,” by Minneapolis NPR station The Current’s John Schober, John Mark Nelson was a high school senior when he recorded his ambitious and “remarkable” (-UtneReader.com) third album Sings The Moon.

From the warm, hazy glow of childhood, to the hardships of adulthood and old age, Sings The Moon plays out like the score of a film, with each track blending directly into the next. This, combined with the lyrical content, makes Sings The Moon feel as if it is soundtrack to a single human life.

Released in June 2014 via Tone Tree, the first single “Boy” premiered on Pastemagazine.com and The Current deemed it the “Song of the Day” in July. Most recently, the Huffington Post premiered the song “The Moon and the Stars” and his Daytrotter debut is currently a “Top Session”.

The Star Tribune says, “[Sings The Moon is] a softly balladic, intimate affair… plenty for still-of-the-night listening á la Nick Drake or early Iron & Wine, with a few swooning, Cole Porter-ish ditties to brighten things up.”

And Twin Cities weekly City Pages lauds, “The insightful chamber-folk studies of the joys, trials, and tribulations of modern life are all set to lush, swelling arrangements… There are hints of the Beach Boys and the Beatles within Nelson’s work, along with more modern influences like Andrew Bird, but he combines these styles in his own distinctive way.”
