Joan Osborne’s New Album Love And Hate & Tour
MULTI-PLATINUM SINGER-SONGWRITER JOAN OSBORNE
RELEASES NEW ALBUM, “LOVE AND HATE”
Seven-Time Grammy Nominee Launches an Extensive U.S. Tour on April 3
With Dates in New York City, Philadelphia, Austin, San Francisco, and more
Multi-platinum recording artist and seven-time Grammy nominee, Joan Osborne, will release her eighth studio album,Love and Hate, on April 8, 2014. The 12-song collection, which weaves together strands of American roots music, poetic lyrics and impassioned vocals, will be released via Entertainment One (eOne) where Osborne recently signed a new, worldwide record deal. Osborne will embark on an extensive U.S. tour in support of Love and Hate.
The album is one of the most personally-charged, creatively ambitious efforts of her two-decades-plus recording career. Osborne wrote or co-wrote every song on Love and Hate making it her most intimate record to date. She co-produced the album with Jack Petruzzelli (Patti Smith, Rufus Wainwright) and recorded the album in the woods of Pennsylvania and her current hometown of New York City.
“I feel like each song on this album talks about a different aspect of love,” said Osborne. “Love isn’t just one thing; it encompasses faith, passion, power struggles, humor, anguish, spirituality, lust, anger, everything on that spectrum. The people we love can bring out the very best and the absolute worst in us, because the leap that you make in trusting another person makes you vulnerable. When the endorphin rush of falling in love stops, that’s when the difficult work comes in. So I tried to come up with songs that were about different aspects of this continuum.”
Osborne is a sought-after collaborator and guest performer. She was one of the original artists on Lilith Fair and has performed alongside many notable musicians including Bob Dylan, Luciano Pavarotti, Stevie Wonder, Emmylou Harris, Patti Smith and many others. She toured with the surviving members of the Grateful Dead when they regrouped to form The Dead. Her multi-platinum, debut album, Relish, spawned the massive MTV and international radio smash, “One of Us.” Osborne is currently a member of the rock band/creative collective Trigger Hippy formed by Black Crowes drummer Steve Gorman along with Jackie Greene, Tom Bukovac and Nick Govrik.
“I’m getting better at what I do,” said Osborne. “I can look at the songs on Love and Hate and realize that it’s better than I could have done 15 or 20 years ago. I have an audience that I’ve built up over time, and I feel like they’re with me. And because of that, I don’t feel any pressure to fit myself into anyone else’s idea of what I should be doing. So I feel like I can write my own rules at this point. That can be scary, but it’s also liberating, and it’s an exciting place to be.”
The unique and beautiful album cover was designed by renowned tattoo artist Gia Rose with Art Machine Productions in Philadelphia. It is available here for download.
