Jessica Hernandez & The Deltas are thrilled to have the Wall Street Journal premiere their debut album Secret Evil a week before its release on August 19th via Instant Records.
A remarkable debut album from an indescribably compelling new band, Secret Evil serves up a dizzyingly polyglot sonic stew – equal parts rockabilly and surf pop, cabaret jazz and funky reggae, Latin psych and Gypsy punk – all cooked up on the hot Motor City pavement and seasoned by that distinctly Detroit combination of blasted R&B and limitless rock ‘n’ soul energy.
USA Today raves “The Detroit-based singer has a powerhouse voice that really took me by surprise (in a great way). And while her pipes are enough to reel me in, they’re backed by a powerful five-piece band, The Deltas, that incorporates rockabilly, soul, Latin and punk sounds into their spellbinding tunes … I love just about every song on [Secret Evil], and I have a feeling these guys are especially electric during their live performances.”
Jessica Hernandez & The Deltas are currently spending every minute on the road captivating concertgoers with their dynamic live show. The band has already shared the stage with legends as diverse as Wanda Jackson, Bob Seger and Shuggy Otis, and has recently toured with The Growlers and He’s My Brother She’s My Sister. They’ll continue to spend all of 2014 on the road with a wide-ranging live schedule that includes headline dates and high profile festivals such as Bumbershoot and Riot Fest. Jessica & The Deltas will also join St. Paul & The Broken Bones for a 4-week tour of the U.S. beginning October 14th. A full list of tour dates below.
“The band calls on a touch of everything: snatches of breezy pop and rebellious punk mingle with freeform jazz, the grit of Detroit rock ‘n’ roll and the big, theatrical sound of a Broadway revue” says Paste Magazine who recently spotlighted the band in their Best Of What’s Next section. “Secret Evil is a spotlight on Hernandez’s vocals, which play off of the dark cabaret-rock of her Deltas” adding this pairing are “incredibly talented.”
