The Humble Grapes To Perform At NYC’s Communion Club

The Humble Grapes, Brie Capone and David Kaufman’s duet-fronted project and long-time collaboration, is proud to announce the release of their debut, self-titled EP complete with 5 original tracks.  The EP will be out on May 29^th with an album release show at Rockwood Music Hall Stage 2 on the same day at 9pm. The EP was produced in the legendary Brill Building at KMA Studios, Chung King Studios and Downtown studios.

These tracks showcase the strength in songwriting that this duo continues to demonstrate within the structure of r&b soul-infused pop. For fans of such favorites as Adele, Billy Preston and Stevie Wonder, this group brings a breath of modernity to a city-edged collection, picking up where other NYC songwriting duos have left off. 4 tracks were produced by Ari Raskin at Chung King Studios, 1 by Ami Kozak, and mixed and mastered at Deepwater Studios.

The Humble Grapes waltzes & rocks with melodies made through David Kaufman’s keys and Brie Capone’s rich voice. From throaty powerful lows to heart breaking, tender highs, her voice runs the gamut in emotions. Their sound is their own and their songs range from blues to rock and ballads.

David & Brie met while studying at the Berklee College of Music.  Their connection was immediate when watching each other perform in a class. Brie impressed David with “Love Has No Pride”, made famous by Linda Ronstadt. “I realized then and there that Brie understood music and that I understood Brie” Dave said. Dave caught Brie’s attention when he sang and played “Corrina” by Taj Mahal. They began to write and play together, realizing “we could spend up to 15 hours in a room working on verses and not kill one another” said Brie. “We thought ‘this is a good thing’ and have been working on the band ever since.”

Their harmony is undeniable, and their shows are drawing an ever growing and loyal fan base.  Like the singular notes that make a harmony, Brie & David have very different backgrounds: David is from New York, and began studying piano in third grade.  By high school he was writing his own music and playing in bands. At just 17 his band “The Shake” were already gigging in venues like Kenny Castaways and The Knitting Factory and Lions Den. “The City has a great energy that is perfect for a kid that wants to play in rock bands all day long (like I do), says David. Then David’s studies took him to Israel, where he continued performing in Jerusalem.

Brie is from a small town in Massachusetts and later moved to Asheville North Carolina at age 14 which she calls home. “My family and history live in Asheville, I learned so much about performing, songwriting and life there, it’s beautiful.”  Changing schools was difficult and she found solace in her poetry, songwriting and guitar. Her interest in music remained constant, which led her to Berklee. After graduation, she moved back to North Carolina, started gigging and taught music briefly in Asheville, before returning to New York to jump into the band full time.

As a band The Humble Grapes have performed all over the city including: Cameo, Caffe Vivaldi, Drom, Fat Baby, Klimat Lounge, The Bitter End, Tammany Hall, The Underground Lounge where they hone their songs and skills, and readying to release their debut EP.  They will be performing April 5 at the Bitter End and May 6 as part of Communion NYC at Rockwood. Their EP release show will be at Rockwood Stage 2 at 9pm.
