The Homeless Gospel Choir Offers I Used To Be So Young In July
THE HOMELESS GOSPEL CHOIR WILL RELEASE ‘I USED TO BE SO YOUNG’ ON JULY 22ND
May 29, 2014 – Los Angeles, CA – Pittsburgh indie folk-punk act The Homeless Gospel Choir has announced plans to release a new album titled I Used To Be So Young on July 15th via Anti-Flag’s label A-F Records. The one man band, consisting of the outspoken troubadour Derek Zanetti, has debuted a new song called “Untitled” today at PunkNews.org. Fans are invited to pre-order the album now at http://store.anti-flag.com/index.php/a-f-records-1/the-homeless-gospel-choir.html. The first 40 pre-orders will include an original drawing by Zanetti.
“Untitled is a song of Hope,” explains Zanetti. “I wanted to encourage folks to really LIVE and to go for it. That we are all in it together that the road is tough but it’s worth traveling. That there are other ways to live outside of the confines of traditional American ideals. That there is great peace in abandoning what is normal, and following your dreams. That there’s more to life than growing older and putting up with whatever mainstream expectations are placed upon you.”
The Homeless Gospel Choir is the Woody Guthrie of the post-hope / pre-apocalypse world that we live in today. Zanetti is personally charged to tear down greed, privilege, and complacency, and is armed with hard truths, humor, and a worldview that every human could benefit from listening to.
Produced by Chris#2, singer/bassist for Anti-Flag, I Used To Be So Young is a bold album that takes an extremely personal look at what it’s like to wake up in your 30’s, staring down the barrel of adulthood without any desire to participate in it. The record makes observations on everything from the “preppers” movement and the fear that our TVs feed us every day (“Armageddon”), to our consumer greed (“Black Friday”), and the real effects of what has happened to a generation that marched into an endless war on terrorism (“When The War Is Over”). He also shares with listeners some heavy self-analysis on growing up, and what makes a life a good one (“Slow Down the Time”), as well as the importance of casting off the chains of materialism that our society has shackled to us (“Capitalismo”).
“I Used To Be So Young is a record about the deteriorating mirage of “The American Dream”,” Zanetti adds. “It talks about breaking out of the fear of not being “Normal” and that everyone grows old, but not everyone has to grow up. That traditional American values don’t apply to everyone. Not everyone is going to have a white picket fence, a 401k, and a college degree. That there is great adventure beyond the confines of safety and mediocrity. That you aren’t alone in feeling like you out of place. A lot of us feel out of place, and Punk Rock is the arena that we found to grow in our weirdness.”
Zanetti will take his message on the road this summer with Listener and ‘68 in support of I Used To Be So Young. Follow him at https://www.facebook.com/TheHomelessGospelChoir for additional updates.
