American Interior Out November 4th

US Tour Begins in November
“An album full of wit, originality and indelible tunes.” – The Guardian

“A beautifully listenable, engaging piece that is original without trying too hard and goes beyond its creator to tell a remarkable story.” – The Times

“These are epic soundtracks for the lost adventurer within us all.” – Mojo

“With American Interior, Rhys not only follows in Evans’ footsteps but, in his own way, helps fulfill his original mission: If, years from now, social anthropologists note an unusually high concentration of Super Furry Animals fans along the Missouri, we’ll know why.” – Pitchfork

Gruff Rhys premiered his new video for “Lost Tribes.” “Lost Tribes” is from his new album American Interior, which will be released in the US on November 4th on Turnstile.

“Lost Tribes” is a song about the 18th century explorer John Evans’s misguided quest to find a lost Welsh tribe in the American interior – thought to be descendants of the mythical 12th century prince – Madog. In this video directed by Dylan Goch, Gruff Rhys dresses for the wilderness in the guise of a Welsh radical, sartorially inspired in particular by the druid and Chartist Dr. William Price. Evans is represented by a 3 ft tall avatar in felt designed by Pete Fowler and the Felt Mistress.

The exclusive US edition of the American Interior album will be released on Turnstile on November 4th. The US release will include bonus material. Watch this space for details.

Gruff has confirmed a series of North American live shows for American Interior. These special performances feature music and visual story-telling as Gruff reports his findings on John Evans’ journey to audiences in several cities this November. He’ll make stops in Philadelphia, New York, Chicago, Portland, Los Angeles and more.

The American Interior documentary debuted earlier this year at the South By South West Film festival. Directed by Dylan Goch – who also directed Gruff’s 2009 South American road trip movie Separado! – the film follows Gruff and his hand stitched John Evans “avatar” as they retrace the earlier Welshman’s epic journey across America.
