“The Voice” Contestant Holly Henry Releases New Single with Grow Music Project
“Hide and Seek” Debuts on iTunes, Recording Session Documented in GMP * The Session Diaries
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. and MINNEAPOLIS – May 6, 2014 – Grow Music Project(GMP), the launch pad for emerging, independent artists, is proud to announce Minneapolis native Holly Henry, former contestant on “The Voice” (NBC), as its next featured artist. Holly was chosen to record her new track, “Hide and Seek,” with GMP, a music industry initiative that gives back to deserving artists through patronage. The songdebuted on iTunes today in conjunction with the newest GMP * The Session Diariesepisode, which documents Holly’s recording process to make “Hide and Seek” at producer Christopher Tyng’s Star Hill Studio in Santa Barbara, Calif.
Before she made her national TV debut on “The Voice,” GMP Founder Tyng identified Holly for a spot with Grow Music Project based on the impressiveness of her homemade YouTube videos and her early original songs. With the invitation still open after her stint on the show, Holly joined Tyng and his team in the studio to record “Hide and Seek.”
Holly’s rendition of Coldplay’s “The Scientist” on season 5 of “The Voice” first brought her unique voice and sound to the mainstream public’s attention, and resulted in one of the only “four chair turns” that season, where all of the judges – Adam Levine, Christina Aguilera, Blake Shelton and CeeLo Green – competed to win her for their team. She became a viral fan favorite, and her following has only grown since.

What elevates Holly as a breakout artist is theintrospective and intimate nature of her voice and songwriting. In “Hide and Seek,” she translates her own challenges with anxiety and agoraphobia into a song that’s intoxicatingly haunting and lush. Her voice is powerful yet delicate, underscoring the personal struggles she faces as she comes to grips with these emotions and how they affect her relationships with others. Set in a minor key against a backdrop of sublime instrumentation, “Hide and Seek” is a dark, brooding and addictive song, which clearly demonstrates that although Holly just turned 20, she is already a songwriter with something real to say, and a perspective and soul well beyond her years.
“We have sessions here that are insane explosions of energy, where you can almost feel the walls of the studio expanding from the intensity; then, there’s our experience with Holly – everyone in the room was completely enthralled, in an overwhelmingly quiet manner, when she sung the first take,” said GMP Founder Christopher Tyng. “Working on ‘Hide and Seek’ was constantly about the CHILLS – from the moment she arrived, through listening to the last fade-out as my final mix was laying back onto tape, it was undeniable that this song would be something incredibly special.”
“Grow Music Project created a wonderful atmosphere and a great work environment. Not only was the studio itself incredible, but Chris and Ryan [Anderson, GMP staff] are such lovely people,” said Holly Henry. “They were so patient with me, willing to lend a hand, and contributed many of their own wonderful ideas – it was truly the best studio experience I’ve ever had.”
Grow Music Project will roll out monthly tracks and the corresponding GMP * The Session Diaries episodes for upcoming artists Engelo Charles, Caution Cat, Ghost Tiger, Joshua Meltzer, Juice, and Instant Empire. Independent artists interested in submitting their work for consideration to Grow Music Project can submit here. Submissions are taken on a rolling basis.
