Leading up to the release, the band is poised to take over North American this summer with an extensive tour that began last weekend at Bonnaroo and continues tonight at DC’s Black Cat Backstage on the third night of their June tour with Gemini Club. Following those dates, The Griswolds will join Miniature Tigers in July and August . See all tour dates below.
The Griswolds formed almost three years ago by singer/guitarist Christopher Whitehall and lead guitarist Daniel Duque-Perez, and joined by bassist Tim John and keyboard / percussionist Lachlan West. The Griswolds were thrown into the spotlight immediately after they found instant success in early 2012 when they became Australia’s Triple J “Unearthed” feature artist and won a slot on the 2012 Parklife Festival lineup alongside Passion Pit. They have gone on to play Oz’s Big Day Out Festival, and have toured with St Lucia, San Cisco, Django Django among others.
They released their Heart of a Lion EP in the US in the Fall of 2013, a shimmering four-song collection of tropical indie rock numbers. Featuring their breakout track “Mississippi,” the EP immediately earned them notable accolades from press and fans alike. You can also hear a remix of the track by Magic Man here. The band made their SXSW debut at this year’s festival and quickly named the band to watch by Huffington Post, Buzzfeed, AU Review, The Atlantic.
